On behalf of the United Nations Postal Administration, I would like to acknowledge all of you during these most difficult and unprecedented times. This global pandemic has brought so many challenges and hardships to all of us, which have tested our strength and resilience. For those of you who have suffered personal tragedies, we offer our sincerest condolences to you and your loved ones.

Looking back at our programme this year, UNPA has issued some very important and beautiful stamps from celebrating Earth Day to Hello Kitty; commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Eradication of Smallpox to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale and paying tribute to our United Nations Peacekeeping Services.

In August, UNPA issued stamps entitled “We are all in this together – Help stop the spread of COVID-19” to acknowledge all of the frontline workers and the sacrifices they have made in keeping us safe, to raise public awareness about this disease and to support the COVID-19 Solidarity Response fund organized by the World Health Organization.

A significant milestone this year is that the United Nations is celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary. UNPA is issuing three stamp mini-sheets with a statement by the Secretary-General to commemorate this historic event.

In September new World Heritage stamps featuring the Russian Federation were issued. And in November, UNPA is excited to launch for the first time ever United Nations Crypto Stamps to support the Secretary-General’s strategy on new technologies.

For those of you who are experiencing delays in receiving your stamps for this year, please be patient, as UNPA staff were just recently allowed back to resume our operations at United Nations Headquarters. Please know that we are working our hardest to fulfil your orders.

We wish you and your loved ones continued good health for the New Year. As always, we thank you for your support and loyalty to the United Nations stamp programme.

COVID-19 STAMPS – SURCHARGE AND POSTAGE

Please note that only the first part of the denomination on the COVID-19 stamps is valid for postage (i.e., 55¢, US$ 1.20, CHF 1,00, CHF 1,50, €0,85 and €1,00).

The second part with “+” is the surcharge (i.e., 55¢, CHF 0,50 and €0,50) will be donated to the World Health Organization COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and cannot be used for postage.

Correction – COVID-19 stamps

Please note that the quantity of COVID-19 stamps printed was incorrect in Fascination 362. The correct quantity of COVID-19 stamps printed was 148,500.

For many years, UNPA has highlighted world heritage sites recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world in recognition of their outstanding value to humanity. This is embodied in an international treaty called the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972.

UNPA is proud to present to collectors the 2020 World Heritage collection focusing on sites in the Russian Federation.

S E V E N T Y- F I F T H A N N I V E R S A R Y O F T H E U N I T E D N AT I O N SUNPA will issue three stamp mini-sheets on 24 October 2020 (United Nations Day) to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations. A quote by Secretary-General António Guterres on the stamps reads as follows:

The vision and values of the Charter of the United Nations, which was adopted 75 years ago, stand the test of time. The United Nations works as one for the benefit of all – for peace, sustainable development, justice and human rights.

The United Nations marks this milestone on 21 September 2020 at a virtual high-level meeting of the General Assembly when world leaders formally endorse a declaration by Member States. The theme of the anniversary is “The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism”.

The declaration acknowledges the achievements and commitments of the United Nations and highlights key global challenges that the world faces. It reaffirms the importance of international cooperation and focuses on 12 commitments to move the world forward, “leaving no one behind” by reaffirming the Sustainable Development Goals addressing the health crisis of the current pandemic, protecting the planet, promoting peace and ending conflicts, improving digital cooperation, listening to youth, advancing gender equality and combatting racial inequalities.

In December 2018, Secretary-General António Guterres launched a first-time every Strategy on New Technologies for the United Nations. The goal of this initiative is to define how the United Nations system will support the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, blockchain and robotics to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and to facilitate their alignment with the values enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the norms and standards of international law.

The Secretary-General identified five guiding principles to support this strategy:

Protect and promote global values. Foster inclusion and transparency. Work in partnership. Build on existing capabilities and mandates.

Be humble and continue to learn.

In line with this new strategy, UNPA is excited to announce the launch of its first time ever United Nations Crypto Stamps. The stamps were developed in conjunction with the United Nations Office of Information, Communication and Technology and run on Ethereum blockchain. Three mini-sheets of one stamp each in the denominations of $7.75, CHF 8 and €7 will be issued on 24 November 2020.

It also corresponds with the birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great of Thailand, who had dedicated himself to improving soil resources and advocating for sustainable soil management and soil conservation throughout his 70-year reign.

2020 ANNUAL COLLECTION FOLDE RSThe New York, Geneva and Vienna annual collection folders of single mint stamps and souvenir sheets issued in 2020 will be released on24 November 2020. The folders are printed in full colour, and they provide information about each issue in English, French and German, respectively. The mint stamps and souvenir sheets are not affixed inside the albums, as mounts are provided. The Geneva and Vienna annual collection folders are also available with the affixed and appropriately cancelled stamps.

It should be noted that the 2020 Endangered Species series stamps as well as the 2020 Flag series stamps will not be included in the individual New York, Geneva or Vienna annual collection folders. They are contained in their own separate folders.

The last day of sale of the 2018 New York, Geneva and Vienna annual collection folders will be 24 November 2020.


On 5 December 2020, UNPA will issue a personalized stamp sheet celebrating World Soil Day. The stamp sheet consists of ten $1.20 denominated stamps with the illustrations composed in soil to reflect the indispensable role of soil in sustaining all lives on earth. The tabs feature the Sustainable Development Goals, whose achievement are linked and attributed to healthy soils. The background image shows a rice terrace in a village of Ban Pa Pong Piang in the northern Chiang Mai Province of Thailand: an example of a locally driven approach to pursue economic growth and livelihood in tandem with sustainable use and management of the precious soil resources. The stamps were designed by Thaneth Ponchaiwong of the Thailand Post Company.
