Rick’s role at ISU was to develop, plan, and increase revenue at the University. When Rick came to ISU, revenues were down, the community had lost interest in the athletic programs, attendance was down, and there was a sense that there wasn’t anything premier regarding ISU. I met Rick for the first time when he came to my office to discuss a co-op program for employees, insurance agents, and agent customers. I might add that Rick was the first person from the University to set up an appointment to discuss something like this, and since he has moved on, the last person to do so. Rick made his way through the community and surrounding area influencing business owners, community leaders, and citizens to reinvest their time and dollars in the ISU athletic program. He established more corporate sponsorships than any other individuals previous to or after he moved on. As Rick was influencing members of the community to “buy” into the University, he was also establishing relationships with the media within the area and outside the area, ESPN as an example, to increase advertisement and to put ISU back on the map. Over the time period that Rick was at ISU, revenues increased, attendance increased at all sporting events, and businesses, such as mine, were able to advertise at these events. Everything that Rick did while at ISU was an absolute awesome display of marketing/sales skill. His multi-year plan and model continue to be utilized. Without a doubt, I can testify that Rick Furr knows how to, and has the ability to, maximize revenue, develop incredible relationships with current partners and establish new partners and, at the same time, develop those assets all organizations need to compete and thrive in a highly competitive sales/ business/marketing environment.
