GOLDEN VOICE MANUALMAINTENANCE and PERFORMANCE

HINTS

FOOT SWELL PEDAL

By depressing the swell pedal you will increase the volume, gradual operation of this pedal will enable the player to command a wide range of expression and attack.

In order that the motor is not used unnecessarily, avoid use of the swell pedal when not actually playing, remember to bring the swell pedal to minimum or soft position at the end of each performance. Unlike the piano, you cannot obtain volume from an organ manual (or keyboard). Therefore the swell pedal operated with the right foot permits you to change the volume and give the necessary «light and shade» to your playing in the same way that a singer can vary volume, or an orchestra change the amount of sound it produces.

Speed Regulator

This switch is marked with the word «Volume». It should be set at maximum for use in large halls and set to minimum when playing in a small room. The player will readily make adjustments ot this control to suit the acoustics and circumstances. Remember to apply the foot swell pedal to increase « attack» when the regulator is at minimum setting.

It is important to note the following - In order to avoid unnecessary use of the electric motor, adjust the regulator to minimum at the end of each performance. This will reduce wear of the motor's moving parts and eliminate the slight sound of air when the instrument is switched «on» but not actually playing.

REGISTERS

The registers of the Golden Voice are all AUTOMATIC.

IMPORTANT. Do not attempt to apply more than one register at the same time. This can damage the intricate mechanism which, although sturdy, cannot be expected to function efficiently with this type of use.

Careful and inspired use of the registers will place at the disposal of the player a very wide tonal range and variety.

The four RED tabs produce each of the four voices individually. The single BLACK Tab is the «Master» or «full organs» tab. This will enable all four voices to sound simultaneously.

The WHITE tabs produce selected preset combinations of the four fundamental voices. These magnificent voice cocombinations range from the beautiful and delicate «Voce Celeste» to the rich dignity of the «Chapel organ».

The player will soon use the various voicings to suit the mood and character of the music being played. The registers or tabs are the players tone colours and permit personal taste and imagination to be applied to the performance.

VIBRATO

The vibrato or tremulo switch when applied, will add warmth and «feeling» to the tone. It will add an interesting tone variation to the tone colours in use.

THE PEDALBOARD

The pedals on the Golden Voice are of necessity shorter than those of a «big» organ. They are played with the toe.

Use of the pedals will give great depth to the overall sound of the instrument - a rich foundation for sacred or classical music and a rhythmic pattern for music of a lighter nature.

NOTE - An extension to the pedals (clearly shown in the diagram) can be supplied at extra cost for players accustomed to traditional pedal technique (heel and toe). This extension can be easily fitted and is clearly illustrated inthe diagram.

The connecting studs marked (A) fit into corresponding recesses marked (B). The slotted ends of the two levers marked (C) then fit into the respective plates marked (D).

The Pilot Light

When the instrument is switched «on» this will light. It is situated on the front panel of the instrument and is visual reminder that the motor is running and the instrument ready for playing. It should also act as a reminder to switch «off» when finished playing.

Should the lamp tail to work, unscrew the white protection cap (marked A in diagram) and ascertain that the lamp (B) is properly inserted. To change lamp, unscrew and replace with new lamp of a similar type.

Care and Cleaning of The Instrument

Always use a soft cloth when cleaning the cabinetry. Modern wax and silicone polish will maintain the high standard of finish to the woodwork.

When moving the Golden Voice, be sure to avoid dragging the instrument. The two special «hand holes» in the back panel enable you to lift the instrument quite easily. Remember to disconnect the mains plug before moving.

Maintenance Hints

Due to the carefully selected materials and ibe extremely high standards maintained throughout production - plus exacting test at all phases of manufacture - defects in materials or workmanship are virtually eliminated.

A modern, rational approach to the design of the Golden Voice has reduced maintenance problems to a minimum level.

The following suggestions, easy to understand, you will save both time and money on the few occasions your Golden Voice will need attention. You will be able to remove suspect components and take or send them to your dealer for his expert attention and will not have to worry about returning the whole instrument. How To Remove The Reed Blocks - To locate the reed blocks, first remove the back panel of the instrument, then remove the two wing screws (25). The keyboard (15) can now be raised.

The reed-blocks of the keyboard and toe pedalboard can be removed simply by loosening the screws holding clips (26 positioned at end of blocks. When the screws are loosened the clips will slide easily towards the centre and the actual reed blocks eased from position.

How to remove lid - Lift keyboard assembly (15) and remove screws from plates (37) situated at each end of the lid. To remove register-panel (10) loosen screws (28). When re-assembling the register panel be sure that the register rods, positioned under the panel, are inserted exactly in the'r respective pivots.

How to remove motor housing

Should it be necessary to take away the motor housing (23) proceed as follows - Tum clasps (35) - Loosen the three crews (36) - Unthread peg (37) from pivot (38) - Disconnect lever (39) Disconnect electric cable (40) from connector.

To reach the motor itself, loosen the four screws (41) and four screws at 42) and then extract the support at 43) - See figures I to L - Figure M illustrates the part to be sent to your dealer should the motor be faulty.

Adjustment of Note Not Playing

Generally, this is caused by a particle of dust that may be lodged between the tongue and plate of the reed.

It may be cleared by rapidly playing the key corresponding to the «guilty» note (figure N) at the same time apply the expression pedal to give maximum volume. Repeat this procedure several times. If the fault persists figure «O» clearly illustrates the next step.

First carry out procedure described in figure C to get at the reed blocks. Locate the reed in question and with a knitting needle or similar rod, touch the tip of the reed very gently (44 - 45). By applying a very light pressure on the tongue of the reed the particle of dust should be released and thus allow the reed to vibrate normally.

7

Page 8: Farfisa - Golden Voice - Manual

Warning - It must be emphasised that pressure be gently applied to the reed tip - Too much bending of the reed can damage it. Further avoid scratching the reed as this will affect the tuning of this particular reed.

How To Remove Single Reeds

The reeds are held in position on the reed-block by a hard cement. To remove a single reed proceed as follows.

Apply a little acetone around the plate as shown in figure P. Allow a minute or so to allow acetone to soften the cement. With the tip of a chisel (or similar tool) carefully raise the plate as shown in figure «Q».

If the replacement plate is immediately placed in position and, should the cement remain soft, simply press it in position smoothly as shown in figures R and S.

It the cement has hardened repeat procedure of applying more acetone to soften the cement again.
