SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA August 6, 2017 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts Today’s celebration only occurs on Sunday once every six years or so. While we heard the Transfiguration Gospel earlier this year on the Second Sunday of Lent, today the context is different. In the words that resound over Jesus today, we can hear the echo of the words that sounded on the day of our Baptism, when we were counted among the beloved of God. Let us pray that we too will one day inherit the promise of resurrection and life in the kingdom of heaven. Readings for this week (Aug. 7-12) Monday: Numbers 11:4b-15; Matthew 14:13-21 Tuesday: Numbers 12:1-13; Matthew 14:22-36 Wednesday: Numbers 13:1-2, 2514:1, 26-29a, 34-35; Matthew 15:21-28 Thursday: 2 Corinthians 9:6-10; John 12:24-26 Friday: Deuteronomy 4:32-40; Matthew 16:24-28 Saturday: Deuteronomy 6:4-13; Matthew 17:14-20 Scripture for next Sunday (19th Sunday/Ordinary Time) 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a Elijah recognized God in the tiny whispering sound. Romans 9:1-5 Paul speaks the truth in Christ. Matthew 14:22-33 Jesus walks on the sea. “Lord, if it is you,” cries Peter when he sees Jesus walking on the water. No wonder he sank! No wonder Jesus scolds him, “O you of little faith!” Our readings next Sunday challenge us to have enough faith to find God in the most unexpected places: in a tiny whispering sound, or in the middle of the sea in a raging storm. As we hear these sacred scriptures next Sunday, let us recall the unlikely places where we have found God and give thanks. ALTAR FLOWERS Our altar flowers this weekend are placed in honor of Seminarian Jamie Hickman (to thank him for his year with us) and Father Nicholas Mammi (to welcome him to St. Anne’s), given by Jim & Maureen Tilley. HOLY WATER:

There are holy water bottles available

by request in the church office. Fr. William Saunders, pastor of Our Lady of Hope parish in

Potomac Falls, VA, writes that holy water offers “blessings

for three reasons: as a sign of repentance of sin, for

protection from evil, and as a reminder of our Baptism.”

There is no specific prayer to pray when using holy water,

other than the Sign of the Cross, “In the name of the Father

and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Other prayers can also be

offered, such as “By this holy water and by Your Precious

Blood, wash away all my sins, O Lord.”. You can also pray

an Our Father or the Saint Michael the Archangel prayer

when using holy water. Stop by the office if you would like

to get a holy water bottle so you can have holy water in

your home. Keep in mind that the holy water in the font has

already been blessed by the prayers of the priest.

Please also keep in mind that holy water from the church

font is NOT for drinking.

PRAY for VOCATIONS!

“Lord, it is good that we are here.” The apostles saw the glory of the Lord and were

strengthened to go out to the world as heralds of what they

had seen. Is He calling you to share your experience of Him

with others as a priest? Contact Father Michael Boehling,

Vicar or Vocations, call 804-359-5661 or email him at

[email protected].
