    What is SAT?

The SAT is a standardized test that lets you show colleges what you know andhow well you can apply that knowledge for college admissions in the UnitedStates. The SAT is owned, published, and developed by the College Board, anonprofit organization in the United States, and is administered by theEducational Testing Service which owned the test earlier. The test is intended toassess a student's readiness for college. It was first introduced in 1926, and itsname and scoring have changed several times. It was first called the ScholasticAptitude Test, then the Scholastic Assessment Test, but now SAT does notstand for anything, hence it is an empty acronym.

Taking the SAT is the first step in finding the right college for you the placewhere you can further develop your skills and pursue your passions. Thecombination of high school grades and SAT scores is the best predictor of youracademic success in college.

The current SAT Reasoning Test, introduced in 2005, takes three hours andforty-five minutes to finish, and costs $50 ($81 International), excluding late fees.Possible scores range from 600 to 2400, combining test results from three 800-point sections (Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing).

    What does the SAT test?

It tests the skills youre learning in school: reading, writing and math. Yourknowledge and skills in these subjects are important for success in college andthroughout your life.

    When is the SAT held?

The SAT is held 6 times a year for Indian students. It is held in the months ofJanuary, May, June, October, November and December. The test is held on the 1stSaturday of each of these months except January whenit is held on the last Saturday of the month.

How important is the SAT in college admissions?

The SAT is just one factor among many that colleges use to get to know youbetter. Its part of a comprehensive admission process that also takes intoaccount your high school academics, extracurricular activities, recommendations, personal essay and other factors.

When should I take the SAT?

We suggest that you should take the SAT in class 11 as you dont have thepressure of the board exams during this time and it also gives you time to

prepare your applications for the admissions next year.

How many times should I take the SAT?

Colleges evaluate the SAT I in different ways. Some will take your highest mathand verbal scores even if they were earned on different test days. Some will takeyour highest combined score on a particular day. Some will take the average of

all your scores. No matter what each school's policy is, every single score youearn is part of your permanent transcript, and the colleges see themall. Therefore, it may not be a good thing for you to take the test as many timesas you can. You should only take the test when you believe you are trulyprepared. Ideally, it's better for you to earn your highest score sooner thanlater. You can take the test two or three times, as long as your scores will beconsiderably increased each time. However, if you hit 1800 or believe that youhave dig out the highest potential you will ever have in the test, you'd better stopthere. You don't want your next possibly poorer scores to drag down youraverage score. On the other hand, if you are confident that after more practice, you will do better the next time, go for it. In other word, it'll be meaningless tore-take the test if you expect to earn about the same or poorer score every time.
