Jubilee Year of MercyAugust 21, 2016Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary TimeThis Jubilee Year of Mercy and Pope Francis’ ministry have renewed our understanding that the Church’s heart is open wide to all, and the heart of the gospel is God’s mercy. Flooded with God’s mercy, our hearts should overflow as channels bringing to wounded and weary hearts Jesus’ healing mercy. For Jesus warns, our own salvation is not guaranteed by the Liturgy of the Word (“you taught in our streets”) nor by the Eucharist (“we ate and drank in your company”) (Luke 13:26). People far from that banquet, “from the east and the west and from the north and the south… will recline at table in the kingdom of God” (13:29). Rather, show-ing mercy is key to obtaining mercy ourselves (Matthew 5:7). So we should never dare ask what “someone” asked Jesus, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” (Luke 13:23). The crucial question is “Will I be saved?” And Jesus’ answer is another question: “Have you shown mercy to everyone, freely, gladly, no limits, no conditions, no exceptions?”

On behalf of Grand Knight Al Garza and SHMC President Pedro Balderas, we would like to take this moment to Thank ALL the members of the SHMC for their participation and involvement with the “David Martinez” fundraiser.

New School Year BlessingLord, bless these young people as they begin yet another year of school.

Give them peace when they feel nervous, focus when they feel distracted, energy when they feel tired. Open their minds to the les-sons they will learn both in and outside the classroom. Help them to make friends that build one another up, and be friends to those who need them.

Guide them in making good choices as they grow in wisdom and maturity. Be ever-present with them in the classroom, on the school bus, on the playground, and at home, and may they feel your loving care in all they do.

Amen.

For TeachersLord, bless those in the ministry of teaching future generations as they embark on a new school year.

Grant them energy, passion, discipline, and endurance for their daily tasks. Infuse their classrooms with an atmosphere of care and mutual respect, that all interactions there will be bathed in patience and understanding. Help their lessons to grow pupils in both knowledge and character, and help us all to support the work these teachers do building up our parish and community for future generations.

Amen.

R.C.I.A.Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

COME AND SEE!Are you, or do you know anyone, who has not yet been baptized or was baptized in another Christian faith? Ever wondered why Catholics bless themselves with the sign of the cross, what they believe about communion, what’s up with all those saints and statues, and rosaries, and standing, sitting and kneeling? Why does Mary seem so important? Well, why not come and see and come and learn?

This year’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Program begins on Thursday, September 8. There’s no cost, no obligation, no commitment necessary. In a series of friendly, informative and spiritu-ally exciting classes we will explore the major things Catholics believe and why. We will learn more about the Mass and what is happening and why. Learn about prayer, scripture, sacraments and Church his-tory, and much more.

Are you Catholic and interested in learning more about your faith? Would you be willing to be part of this program to be part of a faith community willing to journey with and support those interested in learning more about our faith? Now may be the moment that God is calling you to be part of an exciting ministry.

So, if you are currently a non-Catholic wanting to learn more about Catholicism, or a Catholic willing to be part of an exciting ministry, please call Sandy Dodson at (512) 213-4554 or Deacon John Kerrigan at (214) 886-8239. You may also email Deacon John at [email protected].

For those wanting to learn more about the Catholic faith RCIA Classes begin Thursday, September 8. See the bulletin for more in-formation.

God may be calling you. Listen, pray and come and see….
