PreZ saYs Thank you everyone who has been helping out with all the games and events! You all look great out there, so keep up the good work. To all who couldn’t make it to the Go Comedy social event hopefully you can make it if we go again. It was such a funny show and the dinner at Rosie’s was excellent. Make sure to get your tickets for the “Keeper of the Cup” raffle. We now have Igor Larionov, Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader, Jason Wooley and Tomas Homlstrom signatures on the cup. We will also be soon be adding Darren McCarty, Ted Lindsay and hopefully many others to sign the Stanley Cup. Our new booth should be ordered shortly and will be set up at the arena before the season is over so keep your eyes peeled. And in the mean time sign up to work the booth! Don’t forget our dress code is No Blue Jeans. You can wear any other color jeans, khakis, slacks, etc. Thanks again and Let’s Go Red Wings!

•NewBusiness: Charity Hockey Game will have a committee set up. More information to follow as it becomes available. Credit card readers presented.

•IncomingCorrespondence(KathyH): We received two new memberships and two charity letters.

•OutgoingCorrespondence(Barb): All cards are up to date.

•ClubLiaison(Sue): Jackets and vests are here and will be distributed after the meeting. Sign up sheets for the games and booth are available. Please sign up.

•Booth(KathyMcHugh): The new booth will be ordered later this week.

•Charities(Sarah): Easter baskets for Turning Point: We need items to fill them. Basket passed for donation at meeting. May 16th is the Spirit of Leadership sponsered by Gilda’s Club. $65 per person. Gilda’s Night Out coming soon. The information will be in the next Fanfare issue. Bacon Fest (Gilda’s) will need 45 volunteers. Kyle and Sarah attended a thank you reception hosted by Gilda’s Club.

•Convention2013(KathyH): We have 13 members going. See Kathy Hoffman for a packet if you are interested in attending.

•Fanfare(CourtneyFathers): Courtney is requesting that files be sent in by the 20th of each month. Use this email address: [email protected]

•Fundraising(Jill): Pizza Kit order forms-please place an order. Proceeds go directly to our club. Puck key chains have been ordered. They are $5/each. Proceeds go directly to our club. Stanley Cup Raffle—tickets are $5/1, $10/3, and $20/8.

•Membership(KathyH): 224 members + 20 associates = 244 membership total.

•Merchandise(Millie): Luggage tags, t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts are available.

•Raffle(Rita): Keep selling those tickets!

•Social(Lorraine): Whirly Ball was a great success. Go Comedy Club in Ferndale is on March 9th. Dinner at Rosie O’Grady’s at 6pm if you are interested. Bowling/Pizza party is on 4/14 at Shore Lanes in St Clair Shores. The annual picnic is July 14th. The camping trip is a Halloween theme this year. Tiger’s game is on September 14th. Tickets are $17 each. The money is due at the May general meeting.

•Tin/CanRaffle: Jill already has many commitments for our annual holiday party including a leather office chair (from Staples) with a Wing logo on the back.

•Trips(Larry/Sue): No news.

•Website(Alex): Unable to attend but reported that it is still in progress. He is working on getting access for members.

•50/50Raffle: $125.00 The winner was Al Casale. Also there were 42 hockey pucks raffled off, courtesy of the Wings organization.

•Birthdays: Marge Johnson, Gil Greytok and Paullette Baker.

•NextMeetingDate: The next general meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 at Hockeytown Café @ 7:30pm

sOcial sceneWhirlyBallinNoviFifteen players and four “cheerleaders” met in Novi for our February social event, Whirlyball. For those that don’t know what whirlyball is...ten players (five on each team) ride in a bumper-type car called a whirlybug while holding a scoop-type racket. The player uses the racket to pass the ball to their teamates and shoot at the goal consisting of a backboard similiar to basketball with a hole in it (instead of a basket). Similar to Jai-Alai, hockey and basketball played in bumper cars.

It was...well...not quite, but almost as much fun watching as it was playing. We played four games total. Everyone was able to play at least two and the two teams with the most points in the end were able to play for the championship. There were no prizes, but the winning team received the distinction of being the For’em Club Champions! Congratulations to Jodie Schossan, Deb Costello, Jeff Firestone, Sarah Wilsher and Robert Taylor!

After our hour of play we adjourned to our table in the common area for pizza, salad, bread sticks and pop. While eating, everyone talked about what a great time they had and wondered when they were going to do this again. I think that this will be a great permanent addition to our yearly social events.

Our next social event is a night of comedy at Go Comedy in Ferndale on Saturday, March 9th at 8:00 PM. Contact me for more information on this outing. Dinner before the show is optional, but we will meet at Rosie O’Grady’s at 6:00 PM.

Forms need to be filled out completely ensuring your information is up to date. Forms and money can be given to Kathy Hoffman at the games, but are preferred at either the meetings or sent to the P.O. Box.

• The cup is about 2 ft. tall and weighs roughly a pound. Made of heavy resin and has a high gloss plastic coat. The cup is chrome-colored plastic and resin.

We are the Red Wing For ‘em Club, the official fan club of the Detroit Red Wings. We have been in existence since 1949, and are a charter member of the National Hockey League Booster Clubs, Inc. The purpose of the Club is to stimulate and promote, in all ways, a greater interest in the sport of hockey.
