Fan Friday Case Study: AZ Digital Photographer David Lloyd generates more business with Facebook

The iconic moment of the Packard and me as captured by SW renowned photographer David Lloyd at the Scottsdale International Auto Museum became a benchmark for a lighting manufacturer. Every time I pass by that photo, I say, "What a classic" which is a tribute to David's genius. Really, that photographic moment caught me seconds after I'd finished a speech. For a professional like David, great photos are usually captured because this patient & persistent photographer rises up early to catch the best light or sits 10 more minutes waiting for the subject to emerge or assume a better angle. Not this time ... he serendipitously pitched me, pushed me into position, and clicked twice and VOILA! ... wow! Why is this significant? Because ... An electronics engineer of 35 years and a photographer all his life, David knows that to capture the lightningfast nature of people and the surrounding mood, a photographer demands optimal performance when it comes to taking photos on the fly. Iconic equipment adjusts, like the lighting of the Packard. ... making it an excellent choice for capturing any moment. However, David's benchmark success wasn't easily transferable when he relocated from California to Arizona in 2007 … simply because digital photography took over and his business dried up. "A number of factors: digital capture, changing global economies, youthful perspectives seeking alternatives to expense, and an upbeat urban look," David recalls. The Challenge: "business seemed to vanish in thin air" Being an engineer, David observed his younger, successful cohorts marketing themselves and their businesses on Facebook. As much as his age credited Facebook as pure mystery and, probably a total waste of time, he saw them getting exposure and more bookings. Remember, in his field, David was known as a trendsetter. Yet, "this new marketing was a total mystery to me." He admits: his outdated marketing strategies worked preeconomic crash, … but as the economy shifted so MUST his focus. So, he and his daughter Cindy Christi broke new ground in AZ in creating a series of AZbased "Get Image Ready" Photo Shoots and Model Search Events as well as launching a Facebook and blog presence. Integrating his fashion and bridal photography events with Maddie Rose (a local teenage Facebook Fashionista and Radio Celebrity) as well as WeBuildYourSocialMedia's Facebook Marketing System (complete with a designed landing page, video & ebook training, and posting content libraries), Social Media Marketing demystified itself and gave him optimal outcomes: Top AZ Photographer David Lloyd Regains His Business Using Social Media by Donna Newman by WeBuildYourSocialMedia.com Friday, January 13, 2012 at 5:09pm

Because  ...  An  electronics  engineer  of  35  years  and  a  photographer  all  his  life,  David  knows  that  to  capture  the  lightning-‐fast  nature  of  people  and  the  surrounding  mood,  a  photographer  demands  optimal  performance  when  it  comes  to  taking  photos  on  the  fly.

The  Challenge:  "business  seemed  to  vanish  in  thin  air"

Being  an  engineer,  David  observed  his  younger,  successful  cohorts  marketing  themselves  and  their  businesses  on  Facebook.  As  much  as  his  age  credited  Facebook  as  pure  mystery  and,  probably  a  total  waste  of  time,  he  saw  them  getting  exposure  and  more  bookings.

Remember,  in  his  field,  David  was  known  as  a  trendsetter.    Yet,  "this  new  marketing  was  a  total  mystery  to  me."    He  admits:  his  out-‐dated  marketing  strategies  worked  pre-‐economic  crash,  …  but  as  the  economy  shifted  so  MUST    his  focus.    So,  he  and  his  daughter  Cindy  Christi  broke  new  ground  in  AZ  in  creating  a  series  of  AZ-‐based  "Get  Image  Ready"  Photo  Shoots  and  Model  Search  Events  as  well  as  launching  a  Facebook  and  blog  presence.

Integrating  his  fashion  and  bridal  photography  events  with  Maddie  Rose    (a  local  teenage  Facebook  Fashionista  and  Radio  Celebrity)  as  well  as  WeBuildYourSocialMedia's  Facebook  Marketing  System  (complete  with  a    designed  landing  page,  video  &  ebook  training,  and  posting  content  libraries),  Social  Media  Marketing  demystified  itself  and  gave  him  optimal  outcomes:

•    landed  a  photography  teaching  position  at  Scottsdale  Community  College

•    created  Outdoor  Lighting  Workshop  of  30  persons  on  Meetup.com  that  filled  within  5  days    for    this  upcoming  2/11/12

•    now  booked-‐in-‐advance  1  month  for  weddings  and  fashion  photography  shoots  -‐  reviving  Cali  days

…  all  of  the  promo  and  marketing  has  generated  via  content  he  shared  on  his  Facebook  Wall,  his  widely  read  blog,  within  his  college  and  lighting  classes,  the  powerful  visual  of  his  Facebook  landing  page,  and  the  social  media  training  that  has  allowed  he  and  his  daughter  to  see  the  new  marketing  paradigm  from  a  better,  more  sustainable  angle.

New  Business  Model:    "embracing  an  unfamiliar  territory"

…  this  is  EXACTLY  what  he  had  been  looking  for!    Just  like  David  has  relied  on  his  equipment  for  consistent  iconic  photos,  he  expects  no  less  of  Social  Media.    Easier  said,  perhaps;  however,  it's  a    Social  Media  Marketing  System  that  has  helped  him  regain  his  financial  success  and  expect  optimal  performance  when  it  comes,  yet  again,  to  taking  photos  on  the  fly.

"Through  the  tutelage  of  Donna  Newman,  I  am  giving  long  overdue  attention  to  Social  Media.  When  Donna  was  introduced  to  speak  and  took  a  gentle  and  powerful  command  of  the  audience,  I  too  took  notes.  Donna  was  speaking  about  Social  Media.  I  was  the  photographer,"  David  recounts  when  he  met  Donna  during  a  speaking  engagement.    That  was  just  the  beginning,  he  adds:  "Through  the  tutelage  of  Donna  Newman,  I  am  giving  long  overdue  attention  to  Social  Media.  While  I  have  only  begun  the  process  of  receiving  Donna's  direction  and  instruction,  albeit  11  daily  Actions,  the  newly  forming  thought  processes  are  venturing  out  to  consider  the  possibilities.

Leave  it  to  the  techie,  yet  social  media  "marketing"  sites  to  help  regain  David's  optimal  photographic  performance  in  a  field  he  loves  yet  nearly  went  archaic.    "People  I  might  not  otherwise  have  connected  with  are  beginning  to  notice  me  and  my  photography,"  claims  David.

"After  Donna's  captivating  delivery,  I  sought  her  out  for  a  few  photos  and  took  her  over  to  a  Classic  Packard  for  what  turned  out  to  be  a  Classic,    even  Iconic  Photograph"  he  recounts.    Iconic  equipment  adjusts  (like  his    lighting  or  like  Facebook)  ...  making  it  an  excellent  choice  for  capturing    any  moment  ...  and  plenty  more  for  David.

Hey,  if  you're  attending  this  week's  iconic  Barrett  Jackson  event  at    WestWorld,  stop  by  and  say  'hello'  to  David  ...  he's  there  capturing    yet  more  than  just  the  Packard.

Enjoy  your  Fan  Friday,  everyone!!
