Erasmus Union - Pop Stanca, Pop Alexia CNOG Sibiu

Conrad Hass• He was born in 1509, inWien, Hass, known as the first one to describe a rocket in stages, he moved to Sibiu later in life.• The irony of fate was that for a long time people thought that a Polish mannamed Siemienowicz was the one who invented the rocket, not Hass.• Only in 1961 justice was made for Hass thanks to the archives found in Sibiu containing a 200 pages manuscript, with drawings and descriptions of his inventions.• From the evaluation of his works, it was established that Hass should get no less than 17 patents for his inventions.

Samuel von Brukenthal• Born on the 26th of July, 1721• In 1774 he was named Governor of Transylvania.• One of his most important achievements as Governor was the building of the Grand Square Palace, which will host the first museum in this part of Europe• Samuel von Brukenthal died on the12th April 1803

Badea Cartan

• He was born on the 24th of January 1849.• He travelled on foot 45 days to Rome so he could see with his own eyes Traian’s Column.• He died on the 7th of August 1991 and he was buried in Sinaia. On his grave it’s written :’’ Here lies Badea Cartan, dreaming of the union of his people.’’

Octavian Goga

• Born on the 1st of April 1881 in Mariginimea Sibiului• He was a poet, playwright, publicist and politician• The first volume published by Goga in 1905, called ”Poems”, received favorable reviews • Octavian Goga died at the age of 57 years, on the7th of May 1938, after he suffered a stroke

Hermann Oberth• He was born on the 25th of June, 1894.• Since he was 11 years old, he was fascinated by Jules Verne’s books and he thought that they were more than fiction, and 3 years later he sketched his first model rocket.• He participated as a war doctor during the the First World War, but from 1922 he started dedicating himself to Physics.• After that, he published a lot of books about space and space ships.• He died on the 28th of December 1989, at the age of 95 , in Feuth.

Cornel Irimie• He was born on the 17th January 1919• He is the one who created „Muzeul Tehnicii Populare” from Dumbrava Forest. This is the most important legacy he left to Sibiu• He published over 250 works. His most important studies are about Romanian native art• Cornel Irimie died on the 22th March 1983.
