Rubik’s Cube The Rubik’s Cube was created by Erno Rubik, a Hungarian Professor of Architecture. He created a colorful, twisting, turning puzzle that was so difficult to solve it took him a month to come up with the solution. The Rubik’s Cube eventually became one the most popular toys in history. The Mirror Cube Part of the Tree Hotel in northern Sweden, the Mirror Cube is a 13 x 13 x 13 foot structure which is accessible via a bridge that is approximately 40 feet long. The cube, which reflects the forest around it, contains a double bed, toilets, sitting room – and a rooftop terrace that offers spectacular views. Beijing Water Cube Another famous cube is the National Aquatics Center which was built for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The design’s theme was conceived around the idea of a square earth and a round heaven. It’s a traditional and modern design. 25 world swimming records have been broken there as well. Astor Place Cube The Astor Place Cube, a steel cube designed by Tony Rosenthal, was officially named the Alamo. It weighs over 1,763lbs. It was first installed in 1967 as a temporary exhibition in New York’s East Village. Local residents petitioned for it to become a permanent public sculpture. Cubism Invented in 1907 by Pablo Picasso and Georges Bragque, Cubism was one of the most influential art styles of the 20th century. It approached reality in a new way, with fragmented and abstract subjects. Apple Cube The Apple Cube is a 29.5 ft glass cube entrance at Apple’s 5th Avenue store in New York City. When it was first installed, it caused such a stir that barriers had to be set up around it to control the crowds. It is sometimes referred to as “world’s smallest skyscraper”. Ice Cube Ice Cube is one of the original creators of the music genre, “gangsta rap”. He was a founding member of the groundbreaking, controversial music group, N.W.A. He later moved on to a solo music career and a successful acting career in movies such as Boys in the Hood, Friday, Barbershop and Are We There yet?.
