The family of the elderly man that died of a heart attack in front of a

Washington, D.C. fire station after firefighters refused to help him is demanding

that the department extinguish everyone involved with the botched response.

Medric Mills' devastated kin called for the firing of the firefighters, dispatchers

and supervisors associated with the bungled emergency response on Jan. 25,

which left Mills, 77, slumped on the street despite being within view of Engine

26.

"We want someone to take the blame for this tragedy," his son, Medric Mills III,

said in a statement at a news conference on Thursday. "It is undisputable that

the firefighters should have tried to help my dad."

The Mills have enlisted high-powered attorney Karen Evans to represent them

as they contemplate legal action, which won't be decided until after Mills'

funeral.

"It is absolutely inappropriate to talk about a lawsuit at this time," Evans said.

"This family is in the process of burying their loved one."

Mills collapsed in a shopping center parking lot directly across from Engine 26

in Northeast Washington, D.C. when he went into cardiac arrest. His distraught

daughter Marie begged members of the firehouse for help as she watched her

father die in the street. She was told they weren't authorized to tend to him.

Washington, D.C. Fire Chief Kenneth Ellerbe — who personally knew victim

Medric (Cecil) Mills, 77 — said the woman in command of that fire station, Lt.

Kellene Davis, will be disciplined, despite her attempts to slink away from the

controversy by filing for retirement.

"There is nothing in our protocol that would prevent an employee from

rendering aid to a person who needs (it)," Ellerbe told NBC Washington.

"Everyone who puts on the uniform takes an oath and is required to respond

when called."

Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray called the command’s callous response

"absolutely an absurdity.”

A member of Engine 26 claimed Davis — who was removed from her post and

placed on desk duty while the department probes her actions — ordered him

not to help Mills.

I completely agree. This man lost his life and at a minimum she should lose her pension.

However, this sadly will probably not happen because her union will prevail in getting that

pension for her. Still, the city needs to put up a fight in at least trying to prevent that pension

from going forward. I would also like the world to see this woman's picture. It should be

prominently displayed everywhere!

Not saying what they did was right or wrong, but when is it anyones lawful (and that's the key word, isn't

it?) responsibility to go and help a person in trouble? In China, if you did, you, by tradition, would now be

responsible for that person for the rest of their lives.

A few years ago a man pulled a women out of her burning car, and was sued because in the effort the womens

back was hurt. Sanity prevailed when California passed a law preventing such suits, but the fact remains that

one was filed in the first place.

This story sadly is true. A new trainee told several,people he could not respond unless the station was

dispatched. After a number of civilians kept banging on the door, he pulled out a chair, crossed his legs

and watched as the man died. True.
