TIGER TIMES the FALL/WINTER EDITION 2015-16 Co-Advisors: Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Plescia The Bells of PVMS By Olivia Goncalves This year Putnam Valley Middle School experienced many changes, such as the bells. We now have an interesting bell system. In the beginning of the year the bells started to malfunction. The original bell system was installed in the 1970’s and the parts we needed to Iix it no longer exist. The bells were taken away, and for a little while it was complete chaos! Lots of students were late for class and teachers had to watch the time so they could try to dismiss the class on time. We had to put in a new system of bells, which sounds very similar to the old one. They also added something to the intercom… every time before the ofIice calls into a classroom on the intercom, there is a chime to notify the class about the incoming call. There are mixed feelings about the new bell system. Some say it sounds like an airport or a shopping mall bell. But right now let’s just be thankful we have bells and know where to go and when. Welcome to the school year’s Iirst edition of the Tiger Times! We have a wonderful staff full of very eager and talented reporters. Some are returning members from previous years who bring knowledge and stability to our club. Our new members are very energetic and full of new and exciting ideas. We hope you enjoy reading this edition. The iVoice Club By Jon Fuchs iVoice is a PVMS club run by Mrs. Sherwood. It meets every Tuesday at the end of the school day. We go to Mrs. Sherwood’s room. She assigns us pictures and we learn how to edit them. Then we pick a partner and we get to work. She usually gives us cameras and lets us take pictures of kids in classes working hard. We also take pictures of kids at band/gym and recess. Sometimes we ask the central school district if we can post a picture on the front website page. After a hard day of editing, we can put the pictures that we edited on a Ilash drive and bring it home. We are also learning how to use Photoshop and iMovie. iVoice is a fun club that helps kids learn a skill for a job in the future.

WhyTuesday?

ByJosefWacaser

Did you ever wonder why Election Day isalways on a Tuesday? The reason thatElectionDayisalwaysonaTuesdayisthatinthe 1800’s, most people worked as farmersand lived far from their polling place. Theyneededtoallowatleastadaytotravelandaday to vote. Most people spent Sundays in
