Chain Maille – TurkishRoundmaille with a TwistNEW! Learn the fundamentals of inter-locking jump rings to create beautiful jew-elry! This class will focus on the Turkishroundmaille weave (a beginner chainmaille weave) using sterling silver jumprings. This bracelet is the traditional Turk-ish roundmaille weave, but it has theadded dimension of intermittently placedtwisted rings. This gives a sparkle andshine to a bracelet that is already beautiful.It feels very soft and slinky and is com-fortable to wear. After two classes you willbe wearing your new sterling silverbracelet. All you need to bring to class isgood eyesight and two pair of flat nosedpliers (instructor will have tools in class toborrow or purchase). European Film NoirNEW!Europeans produced the first filmnoir cycle and first identified Noir as agenre. They also made the first films thatcould be called neo-noir. This course willlook at the European influences on filmnoir through the screening of selectedmovies from England, Spain, France,Italy and Germany. Precious Metal Clay and NatureNEW!What do you get when you com-bine Precious Metal Clay with nature?Beautiful fine silver jewelry usingbranches, leaves and things from thegreat outdoors. Precious Metal Clay is aversatile, easy-to-use material that allowsjust about anyone to make their ownbeautiful, real silver jewelry in a matterof hours. PMC is a clay-like material thatcontains actual silver powder and a non-toxic binding material. In this class wewill explore ways to coat objects andmold, texture and layer the PMC to pro-duce 2-3 pendants and/or earrings. Oncethe PMC is kiln-fired, a .999 percent sil-ver piece is produced. Beginner Ballroom Dancing IHaven’t you always wanted to learn howto Ballroom Dance? Wouldn’t that spe-cial someone love to sail around thefloor with you? This course willfocus on Ballroom, Swing and Latindances - specifically Waltz, Foxtrot,Tango, Swing, Cha Cha and Rhumba.Ballroom dancing is also a great form ofexercise that will improve coordinationand balance. CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Ballroom Dance TeachersAcademyThe Ballroom Dance Teachers Academyis a formal vocational program that of-fers professional training to aspiring ball-room dance teachers. We will train you tobecome a dance teacher, prepare you forprofessional certification exams, andteach you how to maximize your careerin the ballroom dance world. Teachingballroom dance is a career option foranyone - no prior dance experience is re-quired. Please note this is a professionallevel course. Students with limited or nodance background can and do participatesuccessfully, but should expect to dedi-cate sufficient time outside of the coursefor practice. In this course you will learnhow to dance as both Leader and Fol-lower, technical elements of all dances,musical elements of all dances, how toteach private and group classes, and howto prepare for national certification. Theentire 16- month program covers the 17dances of DVIDA (Dance Vision) syl-labus for Smooth, Rhythm and Night-club dances. The course is divided intofour quarters which can be taken in anyorder. The current quarter being offeredthis semester is Nightclub (Salsa, Argen-tine Tango, Lindy Hop, Hustle andNightclub 2-step). Requirements: Stu-dents must purchase dance shoes priorto the second class. Students must pur-chase the Trainee Binder from the in-structor on the first night. Creating Small GroupsThis program is designed for all mem-bers in groups and teams in ChristianOrganizations. The program blends con-temporary group theory from GroupDynamics for Teams by Daniel Levi,Ph.D., and Biblical principles from TheHandbook of Bible Application. Thisfirst course of three focuses on creatinggroups from a foundational level includ-ing such vital concepts as Roles andCharters/Covenants, Communication,Hidden Agendas and Power, and Behav-ior in the Helping Relationship. All stake-holders in groups and teams are invitedto take this course. The course utilizeslecturettes, stories, articles, and videos.Note: This is an instructor-led onlinecourse, and does not meet in a traditionalclassroom setting. Students must havecomputer and internet access to partici-pate in the class and activities.Dates: Online course. Culinary Arts ProgramThe Culinary Arts Program (CAP) is an exciting hands-on series of food prepara-tion classes designed for home cooks with a variety of experience looking to ex-pand their culinary knowledge.CAP students learn skills and cooking techniques from local food experts. We’llteach you everything from basic kitchen safety to the preparation of a multi-course meal. Plus you’ll have the opportunity to explore a variety of cuisine andfood topics including regional specialties, breads, desserts, ethnic cooking andmore.If you’re really serious about cooking, enroll in the CAP Certificate. It’s a 42-hourprogram that includes five core courses, four electives (topics change each semes-ter), and a Certified Executive Chef Review course.Once you have obtained your CAP Certificate, you’ll be eligible to participate inour Advanced Special Series. This special series of classes is designed specificallyfor students who have completed our CAP Certificate and want to continue tolearn and expand their knowledge. Each Special Series will focus on a type ofcuisine or food topic and will meet for multiple sessions. Series topics will changeeach semester so you will always find something new to learn!

Certificate Eligibility and GraduationIn order to receive the certificate, you must attend and successfully complete 42hours of the program. Prior to completing your final class, Certified ExecutiveChef Review, you will be required to fill out the Graduation Application and paythe $75 fee. After completing the C.E.C. Review, you will be eligible to graduate.A CAP Graduation ceremony will be held to honor students. This reception isopen to all graduates, and their family and friends. Landscape Design CoreThis curriculum consists of nine courses that address landscape design principles andskills. Students learn about small-scale design applications, site engineering methods,and the creative use of plant materials. Project assignments such as site plans and con-struction details are required in the Landscape Design Core curriculum and are critiquedby the respective instructor. Students benefit from the successful solutions offered inthese constructive sessions.

Typically, students proceed through the Landscape Design Core while participating in theWoody Plants Core.

Woody Plants CoreThis curriculum consists of five courses that can be taken in any sequence. Completion ofthe Woody Plants Core is one step in the process of receiving the Landscape Design Pro-fessional Certificate. Students study approximately 300 plants suitable for the growingenvironment in the Mid-Atlantic region during various seasons. Field study sessions arescheduled at local gardens and nurseries and are supplemented by lectures on horticul-ture, nursery and planting standards.

Some students choose to complete only the Woody Plants Core curriculum. This option isideal for landscape professionals and horticulture staff seeking to improve knowledgeand proficiency in the industry.

Cancellation and Refund PolicyThe Office of Community and Profes-sional Education reserves the right tocancel any class or make any otherchanges it deems necessary. Course feeswill be refunded in full when the Officeof Community and Professional Educa-tion cancels a course.We recognize you may occasionally needto cancel your registration. If you wishto receive a refund, we must receive yourwritten request for cancellation no lessthan five business days prior to the classstart date. A 50% processing fee will bededucted from the refund. We regret thatwe cannot provide a refund if we receiveyour written cancellation in four or fewerbusiness days before the class start date.However, we will issue a gift certificate inthe amount of the class fee for futureregistration. Please note that your refundmay take several weeks to process.
