A new season calls for anappointment to polishup those style skills andupdate your work ward-robe. With new fall trendsarriving in the stores andonline daily, it’s the perfect
time to rework those professional basicsthat you’ve come to depend on day inand day out... even if you work fromhome. Here are some ways to put some
new life into your dress code for theoffice:• Start with a suit. Yes, going matchy-
matchy is back, and that means thetwo-piece suit is making a comeback. How easy does that make gettingdressed every day? An elegant, classicsuit never fails. But just because you’vestill got that go-to black suit hanging in your closet, doesn’t mean you just needto throw on a white blouse and be outthe door. Instead, get creative. You’vegot a blank canvas.
• Take apart the pieces. Wear a dark
pair of tailored jeans with your suit jacket. Dressed-up jeans — don’t eventhink about pulling out the ripped-upones — can add a modern touch forthe ofce. The high-waisted ares are agreat update this fall. You can also add apair of trendy culottes to give fitted suit jackets instant fashion appeal.
• Think outside the jacket. A suit maybe the ultimate working girl’s friend, butthere are other ways to get more mile-age out of suit skirts and trousers. Takea cue from the boys and borrow a few oftheir sartorial tricks. A vest paired with a
rufed blouse or a cozy turtleneck willgive you a little more of a casual vibe, but goes a long way in adding more ofthe cool factor.
• A cropped top or sweater is another way to substitute some trendy style forthe traditional professional uniforminto your work wardrobe. The boxy, big-shouldered looks are in this season, andare a balancing counterpoint to slimpencil skirts. For even more of an up-to-the-moment look, try pairing shortertops with a midi skirt.• Add a dash of whimsy. Prints can do wonders for perking up those basics in your closet. There are plenty of bold,
Reworking itUpdating the basicwork wardrobe
colorful patterns out there this fall that will take your boring suits and add asophisticated touch. It’s true that somedesigners have been carried away withmixing all kinds of “clashing” prints andpatterns, as well as colors. A little of thismishmash goes a long way, especially if you’re the one standing at the head ofthe conference table in front of a roomfull of corporate executives.
But it can be fun to do a little experi-menting with your wardrobe. Leopardprints are a great place to start. Theyusually complement many graphic
stripes and oral designs. Metallics areanother way to polish up the shine on your office attire. Wearing a little sparkleduring the day can set you apart in a seaof white shirts and black suits.
• Make it colorful. Even though the fallseason is usually full of muted tones, this year designers are putting a joltinto their designs. Go for the unexpect-ed autumn hue to wake up that work wardrobe. An emerald green sweater? A cobal t blue dress? A red suede jack-et? Pack a colorful punch into gettingdressed every morning and you’ll put a
smile on your face and your co-workerstoo.
• Accessorize. It’s the little things thatoften make the biggest difference. Youcan wear the same suit several timesand change up the accessories to alwaysadd a fresh twist. Go for unique andinteresting details — try a wide belt tocinch in your jacket; an eye-catchingbib necklace or a handmade-jeweledcuff bracelet.
Reinvent. Rework. Then rewind... athome in your pajamas.

Plus sizes a plus for local retailersHEIDI MAE BRATT
The funny, Oscar-nom-inated, Emmy-award w i n n i n g a c t r e s sMelissa McCarthy
needed a dress for a recentred-carpet Oscars walk andcouldn’t get a designer tocreate one for her. Fashion-ing a dress for a high-profileactress is considered a coup
for designers, but the plus-size star of “Bridesmaids”and “Tammy” was turneddown by several and hadto settle for an off-the-rack style thatlanded her not on a fashion hit list, buton a fashion miss list.
So Ms. McCarthy, who had studiedfashion design at New York’s FashionInstitute of Technology, decided to teamup with an old friend, couture designerDaniella Pearl, to launch Pearl, which wi ll off er fa shi ona ble clo th in g fo r women of substance.
“When I go shopping, most of thetime I’m disappointed,” Ms. McCar-thy reportedly said at the time sheannounced her intention. The new
design line, the actress-turning-entre-preneur hopes, will put an end to theoften frump and frumpier look for larg-er-sized women.
In fact, many retailers have come torecognize this, and know that there isrevenue in dressing real-sized women. From labels that offer a plus-sizeto the explosion of online retailers, big is beautiful is big business beingembraced in a big way.
Closer to home, retailers and fashionmavens have recognized that all women want to look great and not be made tofeel that if they aren’t a size 6, they can’tdress like their single-digit sized coun-terparts.
Less than a year ago, the owners ofGinger N’ Cream in Westwood launchedGinger Love, a fashion emporium thatcarries sizes 12 to 22. Since its openingin November, the branch has been aresounding success.
“Response has been fantastic,” saysowner Sue Bahng. “Women are so
happy that they can come in and findsomething quick or outfit an entire wardrobe.
“We love to dress womenfrom head to toe and takegreat pride in making themfeel great for everyday orfor any special event. From just our orig inal women’sstore, Ginger N’ Cream, we were not able to do thisfor beautiful women of allsizes. This is where Ginger
Love comes in. We can pro-vide the same up-to-datestyles with great service ina comfortable boutique
setting, all under one roof.”Bahng continued, “Women are beauti-
ful no matter what size. There shouldbe more offered to ‘real size’ American women.”
Real-size women are being celebrat-ed and reected more and more thesedays. From actresses like Lena Dunham, who has film ed hers elf unclot hed inher breakthrough, award-winning show,
“Girls,” to television personality MindyKaling, to comedians Rebel Wilsonand songstress Adele, actress MelissaMcCarthy stands in good company withmany women in the public eye whoare proudly displaying their curvy phy-siques sans apologies
Paula Parlato, owner of The Engle Shopin Englewood, said a customer cameinto the store recently who was look-ing for a mother-of-the-bride dress, butspecically told Parlato that she did not want to look like a mother-of-the-bride.
The woman, who wore a size 20,picked out a beautiful black lace num-ber in a smaller size, and Parlato tookher measurements and will have thedress custom-made to specifications –and it will look just like the smaller sizedone. That is one of the popular servicesoffered at The Engle Shop, says Parlato,a native of Italy and a designer herself.
“Not everybody is a size 6,” says Parlato.“Every women is entitled to wear some-thing beautiful. Even a size 20 wantsto look and feel sexy. When they comeinto the shop they can get a dress with a
shape. They don’t have to buy a dress thatlooks like a tent and has no shape.”Likewise, Mishelyne’s Fashions in
Teaneck has been dressing women ofall shapes and sizes and carries its lineof casual clothing, evening and formal wear in a range of sizes from 0 to 24.
“We cater to every size,” says itsowner, Sara, who has been in the busi-ness for decades and notes that fash-ion has come around for the larger size woman.
“The styles are more updated and notas frumpy as years ago.”
As it should be, she says, women want what women want: “Women want to bestylish, in-style and trendy.”
Every women is entitled to
wear somethingbeautiful.

Walking into this beautif ully styledboutique is like opening a treasurechest and finding any designer goodie you can imagine. Savvy Chic has an
amazing selection of women’s cloth-ing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories rangingfrom Chanel to Tory Burch.
The owner of Savvy Chic, Randi Morein, says hercustomers liken their shopping experience to treasurehunting: “They love finding unique and interestingitems.”
Everything in the boutique is in pristine condition. Most of the items are new or in near-new condition, and each item is inspected before it goes out on theoor. It is not unusual to nd items with their ticketsstill on them from the store they were bought at. AtSavvy Chic, you can nd a Chanel handbag with thetags still on it, Christian Louboutin shoes never wornbefore, or a fabulous Carolina Herrera gown for a thirdof its retail cost.
As one of the lar ges t con sig nme ntstores in the area, Savvy Chic has anentire evening wear department for thatspecial occasion dress. Mixed metals, the universal complement What type of jewelry satisf ies andatters every woman?
Mixed metals do.Randi Shinske, owner of Red Velvet
Luxe in Ridgewood, talks about howher customers label themselves as wearing either white or yellow gold jewelry. They get comfortable in onecolor of metal, build their jewelry ward robe arou nd that color, andcan’t seem to take a leap to the otherside.
Two-tone jewelry blends the coolcolor of white with the warm tonesof yellow to complement and satisfyall skin tones.
How do you know whether youhave cool or warm skin tones?
Cool skin tones are identifiableby bluish colored veins. People
with cooler skin tones may noticepinkish or rose-red undertones
when looking in the mirror. Eyecolor can range from light blueto dark brown and anywhere in
between. Most people have coolskin, including people with dark skin and tan skin. Warm skin tones are identifiable by greenish colored
veins. People with warmer skin tones may notice yel-low or golden undertones when looking in the mirror.Their eyes can be any color. People whose naturalhair color is red, orange, or strawberry blonde almostalways have warm skin tone. People with darker skinare not usually warm-skinned.
Cool skin tones favor white gold and platinum met-als. Warm skin tones favor yellow gold metal.
As for diamonds — they are truly a girl’s best friend, says Ms. Shinske; they bring out the sparkle and radi-
ance of all women. So when you combine diamonds with mixed metal — white and yellow gold — you havethe universal complement.
“All women should wear yellow and white gold withdiamonds,” she says.
For more information, visit Red Velvet Luxe at 59 East Ridge-
wood Ave. in Ridgewood or call | (201) 689-1800.

Did anyone really ever teach you how to tame yourcurls?
Here are some tips:Don’t brush your hair. Detangle in the shower with
conditioner or a wide-tooth comb.Don’t use a hair dryer. Let it air dry or use a diffuser.Don’t use regular shampoo. Try to shampoo only
once a week with a sulfate-free cleanser.Use extra conditioner. Your curls thirst for moisture,
so add a good amount. You can leave some in.Don’t towel dry. A regular towel will soak up all the
moisture. Scrunch out excess water with a cottont-shirt, microfiber towel, or paper towels.
Choose gels wisely. Use a styling gel that is alcohol-and silicone-free to keep moisture in.

Y ou’ve heard the realestate adage “location, location, location” as thegolden rule of a home’s
desirability. But today, homebuyers are thinking“features, features, fea-tures” — ones that add
“convenience, livability, and energy ef-ciency” to a home, according to a recentsurvey by the National Association ofHome Builders.
Inspired by HGTV real estate showsand by images of gorgeous homedesigns on Pinterest, buyers — espe-cially younger buyers who want a hometo be turn-key, not needing upgradesor repairs — look for the following top
features, and may put higher bids onhomes that have them:• An open floor plan. Buyers love to
see wide-open spaces, with the kitch-en open to the dining room and greatroom, as opposed to each room beingblocked off by walls. An open oor planfits with their dreams of entertaining,as guests can be in different spaces, yetall in the same area together. Guests arenot out of view, sequestered in different,closed-in rooms.
• Big kitchens with lots of counterspace and granite counters. With fami-
lies cooking together more, and again wit h enter tain ing high on the homebuyer’s lifestyle wishes, a roomy kitchen with plenty of space for the preparationof meals and the display of buffet-styleplatters is a must. Granite counters, especially on a kitchen island with itsown sink (making this grand kitchen adouble-sink design), offer beauty as wellas easy maintenance, as do tile oors, another wish list feature.
• Updated kitchen and bathrooms.Buyers prefer updated kitchens withmodern appliances and designer hard-
ware and faucets. Since buyers plan toput most of their budget on the downpayment for a home, they prefer to seethat they won’t have to then spend afortune on bathroom and kitchenremodels, which are among the prici-est home projects. Kitchens are gather-ing spaces, a hallmark of the owner’sstyle and afuence, and bathrooms arenow considered the home’s peacefuloasis, so they may have glass-wall show-ers, steam rooms, multi-jet showers andclaw-foot baths as well as chandeliersand fireplaces.
• High ceilings. The National Asso-ciation of Home Builders says that the
desirability of high ceilings is important, perhaps a deal-breaker, with rst-oorceilings at least 9 feet high to begin with.20-foot ceilings impress homebuyers who love the lofty, open look.
• A home office. Buyers who workfrom home full time and those whohave office spaces but spend time work-ing from home as well want a sizable, well-dec orated, modern home office, not a corner of the dining room with a
laptop. They desire a large room, con-nectivity, great lighting, and a view, inaddition to plenty of storage space. The experts at Bankrate say that femalehomebuyers are especially interested inhome offices, although both genders listthis feature as among their preferences.
• A laundry. Buyers want efficiency, and they also want their laundries tobe presentable, well-designed, andmodern, with the latest technology andorganizing space.
• Outdoor living spaces. The 2011design survey from AvidBuilder.comsays that 31.4 percent of buyers movingto a larger home said they must have, or
really want, an outdoor fireplace. Again, the appeal of HGTV real estate designsfeeds a need for outdoor entertainingfeatures as well as cozy relaxing spacesfor the family. Outdoor patios also havestone paver grounds, water features, outdoor lighting, and even sound sys-tems. And fire tables may be broughtin by the buyer to add to the allure ofthe outdoor space, extending its use tomost seasons.
• Walk-in closets. In the master bed-room, in guest bedrooms and in kids’rooms, walk-in closets • especiallythose that are more like actual rooms with a central island and clothing andaccessory display style • are anothermark of afuence and a desired feature.
• Energy efficiency. Homebuyers areinvested in finding a home that won’tcost a fortune to run. So they’re look -ing for low-E windows, a good homeenergy ratings score, eco-friendly oor-ing materials, radiant heating, energy-efcient cooling, Energy Star applianc-es, and more for an earth-smart home. They’re also looking for room in the
yard for a garden and expansive, tall window to let in warming sun and cre-ate a grander design effect.
• Technology. From eco-friendly ther-mostats to home settings accessedvia apps, to other high-tech capabil-ity, buyers love modern, if not futuris-tic features that add to the efficiencyand energy-friendliness of a home. Inaddition, buyers want to know that thehome has good cell and Internet service
for optimal livability.• A two-car garage with organized
workspace and storage systems. A two-car garage is, for many buyers, the mini-mum. New home designs often offerthree-car garages. And storage and workspace areas allow space for proj-ects and hobbies.
If your home on the market has manyof these features, you’re in good shapeto attract decent offers. If you’re look-ing to sell a few years from now, it maybe wise to incorporate some of thesefeatures into your home now to help itsselling strength later.

Y our dining room is an impor-tant gathering place for dinners, brunches, and cocktail parties. Thedining room has experienced an
evolution in remodeling popularity lately, thanks to breathtaking design projectsshown on popular home decorating web-site Houzz, as well as Pinterest. No matterhow large your dining room, you can giveit a makeover. Here are the top trends indining room remodeling projects:
1) Add interesting lighting. Julia
Buckingham Edelmann of Buckingham
Interiors + Design says, “A chic dining room
is no longer defined by an opulent crystal
chandelier; instead make a statement with
a one-of-a-kind piece.”
Examples include a trio of pendant
lamps, a rustic wood round holding frosted
glass lights, or a rainfall-like effect of crystals
surrounding lights.
“Unique lighting allows you to put yourthinking-outside-the-box skills to work and
serve as a conversation-starting focal point.
Guests will appreciate your use of the
unexpected to light their meal,” she says.
Add your new choice of lighting fixture
above the dining room table.
With portrait lights on the walls, and
perhaps uplighting placed behind potted
trees, the easy task of installing a dimmer
switch will give you the option of different
light intensity whenever you wish.
2) Choose a new paint palette. Jeanine
Hays, an AphroChic design blogger says,
“Move over white walls; in 2014 we’ll be
seeing rooms with a lot more drama and
glamour.” Dining room walls might finally
get a makeover from their boring beige hue
to stand out in deep navy blue, which style
blogger Mark D. Sikes says is a big trend for
2014. “I’m seeing a lot of the shade on the
runways, on the streets, in chic interiors,”
he says.
While navy blue can sometimes look a bit

country, gleaming metal fixtures and
accessories (also a big trend) create more
of a formal, modern, and stylish look.
Other popular shades for dining
rooms include cranberry and eggplantfor warmer tones, and, if you’d still
prefer a neutral shade, slate gray and
chocolate brown are topping the trends.
3) Chair rails and molding. Adding
new chair rails and molding to the
dining room adds an upscale finishing
touch to the room, and may hide those
less-than-perfect paint lines where the
ceiling meets the wall. A chair rail also
invites the trend of having one paint
color above the rail and another color
or wide paint color stripes below for
creative flair.
If you’re doing the project yourself,
buy extra lengths of wood to allow for
some inevitable miscuts and wood
splits. It’s better to have extra than to
have to go back to the lumber store.
4) Knock out a wall. According to
Realtor Magazine’s recent Cost vs.
Value Report, the average return on
investment for home remodel projects
is 66 percent, and creating an open
floor plan is one of the most requested
features by new homebuyers. Even ifyou won’t put your house on the market
any time soon, you may still want that
open, airy arrangement.
5) Refresh with trendy furniture and
accessories. Dining rooms have gotten
more eclectic, which means you’re notlimited to the all-matching dining room
chairs. Now a trend is to mix up chairs
and benches or alternate chair fabrics
and print patterns, place grander chairs
at the heads of the table, and more
creative pairings.
A big trend is the rustic look, placing
a rough-hewn wood table at the center
of the room for a relaxed vibe in an
otherwise formal dining room, creating
an inviting gathering place.
Alternatively, to add some glam
styling to your dining room, think
mirrors. Not just mirrors hung on the
walls — although an oversize, ornate
mirror instantly adds opulence to your
dining room — but mirrored buffets or
sideboards add drama to the room,
especially when you place silver
accessories such as candelabras and art
pieces minimally on your dining room
furniture.
Supersize artwork is also a trend, and
home stylists say that large artwork may
be hung on the walls or even leanedagainst a wall.

Three keys
to insulating your home
There are three elements necessary to providethe highest performing home insulation inour climate.
One: A proven process that delivers insula-tion to and throughout the entire structure of thehome.
Two: The ability to ll the cavities in your exterior walls completely, forming an airtight seal againstthe elements.
Three: Insulation that retains its superior insulat-
ing properties for the life of your home.Let’s take a look at why USA Premium Foam Insu -
lation is the best option for insulating your home.Premium Foam is injected as a liquid through
small holes drilled on the outside of your home, and it reaches every part of every exterior wall. Then the holes are lled, and there is little or noevidence that installation even took place.
Other products require the disruption anddestruction of interior structures such as drywall.
Premium Foam expands to fill the entire wallspace, flowing around obstacles, without anybreaks in coverage. It even can be installed overexisting insulation. Other insulation products do
not fill each wall cavity completely; they get hungup on pipes and wires creating voids.
Once injected into your walls, Premium Foamhardens quickly to form a Styrofoam-like barri-er that retains its structure to provide the high-est degree of energy efficiency for the life of yourhome.
Other products settle over time due to gravity, and that also creates voids. If an insulation prod-uct or the installation technique does not build acomplete thermal barrier around your home, yousimply do not have the kind of high performinginsulation required in New Jersey to keep you com-fortable and energy-efficient all year long.

New Year mortgage planningCARL E. GUZMAN
Autumn is here and it’s a great time toplan. I constantly hear the question:Is it more difficult to get a loan today?
Not really. The passing of the Dodd Frank bill
eliminated stated income and low orno doc loans, which were blamed forsignificant mortgage defaults. Bor-rowers who would have qualifiedunder one of those programs are leftin the cold and really need to pay
attention to the income reported ontheir tax return (especially the self-employed). Although stated programshave started to resurface, the cost andequity commitment are higher. It is alwaysbetter to fully document the informationon your mortgage application, and if youmeet underwriting guidelines, I can “show you the money.”
What do you need to know? Well, to no one’s surprise, credit scores
are important.High credit scores allow for expanded
product choice, lower down payments, and more favorable rates.
There are offsetting compensating fac-
tors such as a large down payment, jobstability, great income, and liquidity.
Sometimes, restructuring an applicationis needed: using the stronger borrowerand removing the weaker one; waiting totry and increase a credit score; or wait-ing for the higher income tax return to befiled.
Co-signers can help as well. The good news is that the market is hop-
ping and there is a great selection of pro-grams to get you into the home of yourdreams.

Benzel-Busch Motor Car Corp. in Englewood isproud to present its all-new model year 2015lineup, featuring Mercedes-Benz C-Class, GLA-Class, and S-Coupe.
The all-new C-Class, which has been redesignedfrom the road up, and from the inside out, debuts asthe top selling model from Mercedes-Benz; it is thepremium of the mid-range class.
Its design is a bold departure from its predecessor, but Mercedes-Benz genetics are still expressed, forthe designers used sensuous lines by melding both
aesthetics and aerodynamics to birth a vehicle witha most synergistic effect upon the eye. With excel-lent aerodynamics, and an intelligent lightweight alu-minum design concept saving the vehicle up to 220pounds, the C-Class sets the bar high in its class.
There will be two C-Class models available at launch:the C300 4MATIC with a 2.0L turbocharged direct-injection in-line four-cylinder engine with preliminarypower gures of 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, and aC400 4MATIC with a 3.0L biturbocharged V6 at 329 hpand 354 lb-ft of torque. 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatictransmission provides smooth automatic gear shifting
Benzel-Busch drives out new Mercedes models
without compromising the surrounding environment. The suspension of the new C-Class is totally new.Utilizing a four-link principle, the front independentsuspension is fully decoupled from the spring strut. The axle therefore allows more grip and higher lat-eral stability. The result is that the driving experiencethrough a C-Class using these components provides atremendously more sensitive and sporty feel.
The interior also features a new design, combin-ing richness and clarity with a dynamic sportinessthat reflects the actual performance of the vehicle.
Looking at the center console, a centrally positionedfree-standing central display is the main eye-catcher with a diagon al screen of 7 inches or 8.4 inches ifMultimedia Package is selected. New for the C-Classis the innovative touchpad within the handrest overthe controller on the center tunnel. Developed in-house at Mercedes-Benz, this provides very simpleand intuitive operation of all the head-unit functionsusing finger gestures.
Mercedes-Benz has also introduced the highlymaneuverable GLA-Class, which offers the power ofan SUV in compact form. Although compact, the GLAdelivers anything but a small performance with theGLA250 4MATIC featuring a turbocharged four cyl-
inder gasoline engine that generates 208 hp and 258lb-ft. of torque. And because the GLA is less imposingthan previous SUVs, it ts perfectly into the day-to-dayurban lifestyle. It boasts a new-generation 4MATIC all- wheel drive system, and a robust body structure. Thevariable interior concept guarantees plenty of recre-ational enjoyment off the paved roads of the city, be iton the beach, or rough terrain.
But with off-roading comes the question of safety, which the engineers at Mercedes -Benz make the toppriority. The GLA250 4MATIC is equipped with downhillspeed regulation and an off-road transmission mode asstandard. It has a top speed of 145 mph and the engineis mated to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic trans-
mission, which unites comfort and sportiness.
Rounding out the latest models in the Fall 2015 Mer-cedez Benz lineup is the all-new 2015 S-Class Coupe, abreathtaking version of our new agship S-Class. Thetwo-door S550 Coupe, which replaces the CL-Classvehicles, will be available in the U.S. as a 4MATIC only
with a 4.7L V8 biturbo engine. The S550 Coupe hasan output of 449 hp and its torque level peaks at 516lb-ft. The sporty driving experience is significantlyenhanced by the emotional sound produced by theexhaust system. The interior of the S-Class features adashboard that wraps around the front passengers, extending to the doors, engulfing them all with anexpansive array of options.
Benzel-Busch represents the Mercedes-Benz, Audi,Maybach, and Smart brands. Family-owned and oper-ated for nearly half a century, Benzel-Busch takes apersonalized approach, tailoring services to match what is convenient for you.
