TRACY GOLLING
Tracy loves New Westminster. After attending John Robson Elementary School, she graduated from New Westminster Secondary School, and has been an Irving House Guide and enthusiast of twenty-seven years. Not only has she lived in and worked closely with our city, she is an arts and crafts specialist of over thirty-five years. Due to her dual passion for arts and heritage, Tracy develops and runs unique craft programs with the Museum. Some of her programs include Spring Garden Crafts, Crafts From Around The World, and Embroidery 101. Currently, she is looking forward to her brand new Handmade Heritage: Crochet 101 program this fall. Tracy also loves to read, has been married for thirty years, and has three wonderful daughters.
NOELLE HORROCKS
Noelle is a visual artist and instructor who is passionate about sharing her love of drawing, painting and 3-dimensional art making with students of all ages. She has a BFA in painting and sculpture from Emily Carr University and 19 years teaching experience throughout the lower mainland. Her personal studio practice focusses on whimsy, storytelling and colour as it relates to mixed media in painting and ceramics. She believes that making art is a unique and magical process that allows unlimited possibilities in creative expression, and finds great joy in supporting her students in finding their own unique art voice and vision.

Parent & Baby Yoga 0-10 months
Begin each class with a Baby Yoga Flow that supports your baby’s developing systems. Move into a Parent’s Yoga Flow which loosens and opens areas of the body that often experience repetitive strain while caring for an infant. Using printing inks, brayers and the professional Anvil Centre press, kids learn about all things “printmaking.” Make bold stamps, collagraphs using up-cycled materials and monoprints using plexi-glass plates and water-soluble crayons. Discover the many possibilities available to today’s acrylic painter! Try thinning your paint to layer luminous transparent glazes then switch it up by applying thick impasto molding pastes and gels to increase texture. Introduce collage papers, lettering and found objects to create further compositional interest. Experiment with a variety of substrates such as Yupo paper, canvas, and boards while learning the basic principles of colour theory. For one day in September, the Samson V Maritime Museum joins the Fraser River Discovery Centre and the Hyack Festival Association to celebrate BC and World Rivers Day with a festival that honours the Fraser River. Families can explore the wonders of life keeping the Fraser River safe. Tour the last steam-powered sternwheeler in B.C., then try some knot-tying, learn about the parts of the ship through a scavenger hunt, make an origami boat, try traditional caulking, and learn about maritime symbols in heraldic crests from the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada.

World Food Day is celebrated each year on October 16. Established in 1981, its purpose is to spread awareness about world hunger, poverty, and to inspire change. Taking you on a journey from 10,000 years ago through today, our exhibits focus on the land, people and development of the place we call New Westminster. OTHER HERITAGE SITESBe sure to check out the other heritage sites the City has to offer. IRVING HOUSE at 302 Royal Avenue is the oldest intact house in the Lower Mainland, built in 1865 by riverboat captain William Irving and interpreted to the Victorian era.
Located by the River Market, the 1937 SAMSON V snag-boat is BC’s last steam-powered sternwheeler. This former working ship tells the story of the Fraser Port. Admission at both sites is by donation.
