FAQHOW ARE COMMUNITY EDUCATION & WORKPLACE TRAINING (CEWT) COURSES DEVELOPED?CEWT Coordinators offer courses that have proven demand in the community. Certain programs are “staples” and are offered semester after semester, while other courses are in response to community interest. All courses must meet a minimum enrolment requirement.
WHY SHOULD I REGISTER EARLY?CE courses are cost recovery and rely on both local participation and, whenever possible, local instructors. Early registration means that a course will have a much better chance of meeting the minimum enrolment requirements in order to run. The longer you wait to register, the greater the chance of course cancellation. Also, by registering early, you avoid the disappointment of the class being full.
WHAT IS CONTRACT TRAINING?If you have a specific training need, or our scheduled dates don’t work for you, we can modify, develop and provide training for you via a service contract. We encourage you to talk to us about your requirements.
HOW DO I FIND ALL THE COURSES IN MY AREA? Visit our website at selkirk.ca/ce or swing by your local campus and pick up a calender. We mail our calenders to all PO Boxes in our region twice a year usually in late August and late December. If you see a course you like on another campus, call your local CEWT coordinator and ask if things can be arranged locally.
WHY ARE COURSES CANCELED?Continuing Education courses require a minimum number of student enrolments in order to run. This is why early registration is so important. If a course does not meet minimum enrolment numbers, it will be cancelled.
CAN I ACCESS ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO TAKE CE COURSES?The CEWT department offers the Craig Andrews Continuing Education (CACE) bursary. Financial support may be obtained for up to 50% of the course tuition (maximum of $200). Please check selkirk.ca/award/craig-andrews-continuing-education-bursary for more details.
WHAT IS THE COLUMBIA BASIN TRUST TRAINING SUBSIDY AND HOW CAN I APPLY FOR IT?Speak to your local employment office or visit www.cbt.org/funding for more information. Other possible funding sources are available through Work BC.
WHY ARE SOME COURSES MORE OR LESS EXPENSIVE ON CERTAIN CAMPUSES?Course costs can vary from campus to campus depending on a variety of things ranging from instructor travel costs, equipment costs and subsidized courses. It is our goal to ensure that courses are priced as competitively as possible.
PLEASE NOTE that manuals and supplies are not always included in the course tuition.
Still have questions? Visit selkirk.ca/ce/contact-cewt-team and contact the coordinator in your area.
