What is Fall for Smiles?

Fall for Smiles is a grassroots campaign promoting awareness of vital oral

health habits among both children and older adults. Through promoting

the importance of four key messages: 1) dental self-care, 2) healthy nutrition,

3) routine dental visits, and 4) no tobacco use, Fall for Smiles strives to bring

healthy mouths to life.

Oral Health America and Oral Healthcare Can’t Wait invite you to participate

in this year’s Fall for Smiles promotion. Beginning September 1, we’ll “Fall for

Smiles” – and we hope you will join us! There are many ways that you can

participate. By supporting Fall for Smiles, you will encourage the

families at your practice to include oral health in their back-to-school

and fall routines, leading to a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Do your part this fall by taking a few extra minutes to promote healthy oral care

habits to your patients. Together with Oral Health America, Oral Healthcare

Why is Fall for Smiles important?

• Tooth decay is the primary unaddressed childhood disease in the

United States. Children lose over 51 million school hours per year for

dental-related illnesses, while adults lose over 164 million work hours.

With your help, Fall for Smiles healthy mouth practices will change these

alarming statistics.

• Surprisingly, we have a lot to learn about our mouths. Most adults (82%)

are unaware of the role infectious bacteria can play in tooth decay and

cavities. We need your help to inform children, parents and older adults

about why mouth health is so important to our overall health.
