Our 2017-2018 Talent Show was a success! Many of our students

participated in various talent demonstrations. Level IV: Jesus Audelo, Miguel Calderon, Fer-

nanda Castellanos, Julio C. Chavez, Vanessa De La Llata, Rene Insunza, Aram y Santiago

Martinez, Jennifer Meza, Alan Muñoz, Azul Preciado, Nicole Saldaña, Mireya Arredondo,

Jair Ascarrega, Sashi Castro, Sofia Cordova, Kaleb Macias, Aileen Sanchez & Adrian Ve-

lazquez, Aleshka Davis & Melissa Venegas Kinder, Quianna Lezama 2nd, Ximena Barnett,

Danicka Davis y Estefania Orozco 4th, Stacey Barnett, Gabrielle Reyes, Jazmin Romero &

Jean Venegas 6th show cased their talents. They all did a wonderful job! Also, a special thanks

Folklorico

Los estudiantes del grupo de ballet folklórico fueron invitados por el Consulado General de México

a bailar en el evento del 16 de septiembre que tuvieron en las instalaciones del centro de adultos

mayores Bowman Senior Residences. The audience greatly enjoyed their presentation.

The students from our folkloric ballet group were invited by the Consulado General de México to dance in the September 16th event held at the Bowman Senior Residences. El público disfrutó mu-cho su presentación

SANTA CRUZ

COUNTY FAIR We are very proud of Level II students that par-

ticipated in the science contest in the Santa Cruz

County Fair. We earned 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in

the solar planet categories. We want to thank the

support we got in taking and bringing the pro-

jects to the Santa Cruz fair by our students’ moth-

ers, Nadya Chavez, Ana Chavez and Monica De La

Rosa.

Estamos muy orgullosos del nivel II que parti-cipó

en el concurso de la Feria del Condado de Santa

Cruz. Tuvimos el privilegio de obtener varios

premios de 1er, 2do y 3cer lugar en la categoría

del planeta solar. Agradecemos la ayuda que ob-

tuvimos la visita de los Señores

Cordova, socios del Club Rotario la

cual fue de mucho agrado para to-

dos los estudiantes de 3er grado.

Los miembros del club obsequiaron

un diccionario a los estudiantes y

también les estuvieron leyendo al-

gunas definiciones. Muchas gracias

al Club Rotario de Nogales Az.

members of the Rotary Club .

Attendance Classification:

Divide the number of absences reported in the program by 2. One for the AM and

one for the PM. The result is the number of actual student absences.

(For example: 8 absences reported in the program divided by 2 = 4 actual absences)

AM= 1 absence

= 2 absences for the day

PM = 1 absence

POWERSCHOOL

Aclaración de la asistencia:

Divida el número de asistencias reportadas en el programa entre 2. Una por el AM

y otro por el PM. El resultado obtenido es la cantidad de ausencias actuales.

(Ejemplo 8 ausencias en el programa dividido entre 2 = 4 ausencias actuales)

AM= 1 ausencia

= 2 ausencias por el día

PM= 1 ausencia

Important Power School News

CELLULAR PHONES

A student shall not be permitted to use a cellular phone during school hours. Cellular phones must

be checked into the office before the beginning of classes. If student has a cellular phone in their

possession during school hours it will be confiscated and returned only to the parent/guardian on

the first offense. On the second offense, the cellular phone will be confiscated for 60 calendar days.

On the third offense, the cellular phone will be confiscated for 365 calendar days from the day it

was confiscated

No se permitirá a los estudiantes utilizar un teléfono celular durante las horas escolares. Los teléfo-

nos celulares deben registrarse en la oficina antes del comienzo de las clases. Si el estudiante tie-

ne un teléfono celular en su poder durante las horas escolares, será confiscado y devuelto sola-

mente al padre / guardián en la primera incurrencia. En la segunda incurrencia, el teléfono celular

News from the Classroom...

October is here and it brings cooler weather for us to enjoy. Kindergarten students now have strong Spanish foundations. They can rec-

ognize vowel sownds to begin reading their first simple sentences! Parents can help by studying the consonant of the week and follow-

ing the October poster. In math students can now count by tens up to 100 and parents can help them by practicing number recogni-

tion. One great and fun resource to keep students active is www.gonoodle.com where you can create your account and have family

time. This month we have our first exploration to the Marana pumpkin patch and students are very excited! Please help me keep them

positive by assuring them that it is a safe activity outside of school and although parents are not involved, they will be waiting after

school to hear about all the wonderful things we’ve done. As always, I thank you for your wonderful support.

Octubre ya llegó y trajó consigo un clima más fresco. Los estudiantes del kínder ahora tienen bases de español fuertes en el reconoci-

miento de vocales para empezar a leer las primeras oraciones sencillas. Los padres pueden ayudarles estudiando la consonante de la

semana y siguiendo el poster de octubre. En matemáticas los estudiantes ahora saben contar de diez en diez hasta el número 100 y los

padres pueden ayudarlos a practicar el reconocimiento de números. Un buen y divertido recurso para mantenerlos activos es la pági-

na www.gonoodle.com donde, al crear una cuenta, pueden accesar actividades familiares. Este mes tendremos nuestra primera

exploración a la granja de Marana. Por favor ayúdenme en mantener una actitud positiva asegurándoles a los niños que ésta es una

actividad segura fuera de la escuela y que aunque los padres no asistirán los estarán esperando para escuchar sobre el tiempo mara-

Level 1 is full of excitement with all of the activities coming this October. Our first exploration will be on the 16th for 1st grade and on the 24th

in 2nd grade in which we will visit the Marana Pumpkin Patch. On October 24th we will have a special guest lecturer that will bring her own

planetarium to our school to give our students a chance to climb inside and learn about the planets, stars and constellations. We would like

to thank all of our parents for their support with tiendita and helping to make our first exploration possible. We are so excited that because

of your donations our very own document camera is within reach. Mexicayotl Academy has agreed to pay the difference so that we can buy

the camera before the deadline. Thank you for all you do! Love, Level 1

Hay mucho entusiasmo en el primer nivel por las diferentes actividades que tenemos planeadas en el mes de octubre. Nuestra primera explo-

ración al Pumpkin Patch en Marana , se llevara a cabo el día 16 de octubre para los estudiantes de primer grado y el 23 de octubre para los

estudiantes, de segundo grado. El 24 de octubre también tendremos una presentación interactiva sobre el planetario en la que los niños

aprenderán sobre los planetas y las constelaciones. Queremos agradecer a todos los padres por sus donaciones ya que seguimos recaudando

fondos con la venta de nuestra tiendita. También queremos agradecer por las donaciones que han hecho para la compra de la cámara. La

escuela se ha comprometido a pagar la diferencia.

October This month will bring us many important activities. Students will be completing their reading goals inboth languages by Tuesday, October 6 th . Make sure your child reads daily (English and Spanish),passes the book tests and progresses in his/her reading level. Fall break provides a good opportunity to rest, practice Math facts, and to read, especially if your child is behind. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be scheduled for those students who are not at grade level. If you do not receive an appointment it means your child is at benchmark. Finally, we would like to thank allour parent volunteers for being active in our school. Your work is very valuable to us! Octubre Este mes nos trae muchas actividades importantes. Los estudiantes deberán estar completando sus metas de lectura en ambos lenguajes para el martes 6 de octubre. Asegúrese que su hijo/a lea diariamente (ingles y español), que esté pasando los exámenes y que esté progresando en el nivel de lectura correspondiente a su grado. Tercero debe estar leyendo 3.3, cuarto 4.3 para el 31 de octubre. El descanso de otoño es una buena oportunidad para cambiar la rutina, para practicar operaciones matemáticas y para leer, especialmente si su hijo/a no está en el nivel de su grado. Las conferencias de Padres-Maestros serán agendadas solo para padres cuyos hijos no están en el nivel académico apropiado. Level III: 5th

& 6th

Dear Parents,

Our first quarter is coming to an end and we have seen an improvement in the academic level of our students. However, in some cases, students have

not yet been able to build reading habits that are strong enough to reach the Accelerated Reading goals. These habits, are necessary to reach the differ-

ent benchmarks established by our school. We appreciate your support at home with homework since it is a support to your child’s learning. We also

want to thank you for all the donations to our level. We are currently saving up to start planning our upcoming explorations. If you have any questions

about how you can support your child’s learning, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with us.

Estimados padres de familia,

El primer cuarto está por concluir y hemos visto progreso académico en nuestros estudiantes. Sin embargo, en algunos casos, los alumnos no han

logrado formar los hábitos de lectura necesarios para alcanzar la meta esperada en el programa de Lectura Acelerada. Estos hábitos son esenciales

para alcanzar las metas establecidas por la escuela en las diferentes materias. También apreciamos su apoyo en casa con tareas, ya que éstas son de

gran soporte para el aprendizaje de sus hijos. Muchas gracias por todas sus donaciones a nuestro nivel. Actualmente estamos ahorrando para planear

Level IV: 7th

& 8th

October. Our desert environment is changing. The wind signals a change in our temperature. The mes-

quite trees rapidly lose their leaves. The fall season is upon us. Students in Level IV are learning about

the changes that come to our desert when summer comes to an end. The fall season brings cooler tem-

peratures; the green desert slowly dries up with the cooler temperatures. During these changes Level IV

students learn about winter vegetables and have planted the school garden according to what grows best

during this season.

We welcome the season change, we welcome fall. ------ Octubre. El ambiente de nuestro desierto cambia. El viento señala cambios de temperatura ambiental. Los árboles de mezquite sueltan sus hojas. La temporada de otoño ya está aquí. Estudiantes de Nivel IV estudian los cambios que vienen a nuestro desierto con el cambio estacional de verano a otoño. La esta-ción otoñal trae viento y temperaturas frescas. El calor del verano va disminuyendo. Durante estos cam-bios los estudiantes de Nivel IV estudian cuales son las verduras que crecen en esta temporada.

the homework time

Kindergarten: 1 hour seat time 20 minutes

First Grade: 1 hour and 15 minutes seat time 30 minutes

Second Grade: 1 hour and 30 minutes seat time 40 minutes

Third Grade: 1 hour and 45 minutes seat time 50 minutes

Fourth Grade: 2 hours seat time 1 hour

Fifth Grade: 2 hours and 15 minutes seat time 1 hour

Sixth Grade: 2 hours and 30 minutes seat time 1 hour

Seventh Grade: 2 hours and 45 minutes seat time 1 hour

Eighth Grade: 2 hours and 45 minutes seat time 1 hour

*Students will periodically be assigned special projects throughout the year that may require additional time.

These projects will be given a reasonable amount of time in which to complete these projects. Periódicamente
