FALL 2019 4025 North Federal Highway | Oakland Park, FL 33308 Welcome | Bienvenue | Bienvenido | Bem vinda | Herzlich Willkommen | Byenveni Welcome to Kings Park. No matter where you came from -- we welcome you. Whether you’re a renter, first-time home buyer, snowbird or longtime resident, Kings Park is proud of the diversity in our community, from the smallest child to our most seasoned residents. Everyone is welcome here. One sunny winter morning, a long-time resident of Kings Park finished his daily swim, and when he stepped out of the pool, he discovered a magic wand near one of the chaise lounges. He examined the wand for a several moments, and then waved it into the air with the finesse of a master symphony conductor, while turning carefully around as if he were the lead dancer in a classic ballet. The next morning, he woke up and made coffee – a routine he enjoyed every day. While waiting for the coffee to brew, he took a small garbage bag and a few recyclables to the front door and placed them outside on the catwalk. The trash pickup service arrives every morning between seven and eight o’clock. He appreciated this curbside service and especially liked that he no longer had to worry about sorting the recyclables incorrectly. The coffee was now finished brewing, so he poured himself a cup, walked out the front door, then took the elevator to the pool. Upon arriving at the lush tropical community space in the center of Building C, he took a moment to visually scan the pool: 25 meters of sparkling water, 87 degrees year-round, and eight feet at the deep end, “Perfect for swimming laps,” he thought to himself. Then he proceeded to complete his daily swim. #BahamasStrong Thank you to all residents who donated personal care items to our neighbors in the Bahamas, who were devastated by Hurricane Dorian. The Fort Lauderdale Fire Department was grateful for our Kings Park donation and will ensure that our contributions are distributed appropriately. Mary’s Tree What began as a thoughtful gesture, is now a reality. In honor of Mary Hillman, a Milky Way Tree has been planted near the pool. Our Kings Park Community is eternally grateful for her efforts in managing the construction of Building B as an Unpaid Owner’s Representative for three years. That job could have earned her an estimated $375 thousand dollars over 36 months. Upon completing his aquatic routine, he exited the pool and walked to the North Gazebo, which housed a hot tub large enough to comfortably seat six people. Once inside the hot tub, he glanced at the South Gazebo, where several neighbors were sitting, chatting, and sipping Java. Next he glanced past the open-space gardens between buildings B and C, where he could see a resident walking their dog on a leash and utilizing one of the dog-waste disposals situated around the property.

After a relaxing twenty-minute soak in the hot tub, he walked through the breezeway, over the bridge, and into the community gym located in the Queens Room. The gym was beautifully designed, and fully equipped with a treadmill, some free weights, exercise machines, and a small vending area with drinks and healthy snacks. After a moderate workout, he returned to the area near the pool and took a refreshing shower. “Later,” he thought, “if I have time, maybe I will stop back and enjoy some time in the sauna.”

Now freshly showered and dressed, he popped into the Building B Community Room to watch the news, which was live-streaming on a wall-mounted 60-inch television. Several of his neighbors were doing the same, and one of them was offered him a fresh donut. The news station was CNN, and the political reporting was not too far left nor too far right. Upon biting into the donut, he thought to himself “this is a delicious, and neighborly way, to begin every day.”

After watching the news, he went back into the

breezeway and bought a daily newspaper and gathered some free local community publications from the digital machines. Now it was time to head home to do some housecleaning and paperwork. When he arrived at his apartment, he noticed that the mail had already been delivered to his door. This was good news, because he was expecting something important.

After completing some paperwork, he planned to use the Kings Park Community Car Wash to clean his vehicle. He appreciated the convenience of an on-property car wash, and found it very handy that the car wash machinery was operated by using his existing laundry card. He smiled and thought, “Wow, the Board of Directors was really smart about this. Using too much water is no longer an issue because residents pay directly for water they use to wash cars.”

That evening, he went back to the Community Room to watch the Academy Awards with his friends. The Community Room has a bring-your-own food and beverage policy, so he and his neighbors all contributed to a shared menu and everyone had a lovely time. After the Academy Awards ceremony ended, a few residents swam quietly in the pool, under a star-filled night sky. He sighed gratefully and thought, “Life at Kings Park Garden Apartments sure has taken a turn for the better. I’m so glad I discovered that magic wand.”

SHADOWShadow is the coolest cat ever. He enjoys car rides, and chilling with his dad outdoors on the catwalk. He is super friendly, and while hanging out on the catwalk, he greets all the neighbors passing by. In other words, Shadow is awesome!

BOGOBogo’s primary mission in life is to seek affection. She views every human as part of her 24/7 affection servicing team.

COOL CATS of Kings Park

ANGELINAAngelina is a sweet and adorable cat, who loves to sit by the window and observe the outside world. And she is not afraid of hurricanes!

MOLLYMolly can be very ornery, but is usually a sweet- heart. Hearing her “meow” as she greets her dad every night makes his day. She loves to snuggle on her dad’s lap and when she looks at him with those big green eyes, she can have anything she wants.

One-Mile Fun Run. 99% Fun. 1% Run.

On a steamy July morning, Kings Park neighbors and friends gathered on the west side of the property for a One-Mile Fun Run. The unofficial race official, dressed in full rainbow attire, determined that the race course be shortened from one mile – which is three laps around the property - to just one lap, in an effort to prevent the athletes from potential heat exhaustion. Mary Hillman was awarded $50 cash for being the first resident to sign-up for the event, and all participants finished the .5 kilometer distance in a Guinness World Record time of 40 minutes and 25 seconds.

If I could make one wish come true, my wish would be an immediate fix to a real-life problem: The unintended outdoor shower. Whenever it rains, I get soaked walking to my front door. With all of the rain water running off the roof and splashing against the concrete railing, I get an annoying little shower right before entering my home. - Warren Techow

If I had a magic wand, I would cast a spell on all the residents of Kings Park. This spell would transform every rumor and unkind, ungrateful or hateful word ever uttered by a neighbor, into a bed of flowers for the entire community to enjoy.- Kim Leppert-Beers
