Halloween Pumpkin Treatsrecipe from food.comWe are quickly approaching pumpkin season. Pumpkin is an excellent source of fiber and can help with both constipation anddiarrhea. It also has significant amounts of potassium, beta carotene, and Vitamin C.

2 eggs1/2 cup canned pumpkin (only use pure canned pumpkin)1/2 teaspoon salt2 tablespoons dry milk2 1/2 cups flour (use wheat if you prefer)water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F

Blend the eggs and pumpkin together, add salt, dry milk, and flour.

Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable. It should be dry and stiff (don’t be concerned with crumbs beingleft in the bowl). You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.

Roll to 1/2 inch thick and cut into shapes. Place 1” apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Ignore your dog’s desperatebegging and make sure the treats are fully cooled before sharing them!

Bring the dogs, the kids, the boat, a fishing poleand prepare to relax and

enjoy the great outdoors.Cypress Bend Park at ToledoBend Reservoir is ourfavorite place for campingand fishing. We visit thereseveral times a year but thefall and winter is our absolutefavorite. They have one andtwo bedroom, pet friendlycabins that are complete withlinens, dishware/cookware,microwave, coffee pot, andsatellite TV. There is also asleeper sofa. For those ofyou with campers, there are60 RV sites with water, sewer, and electrical hook-ups. The area has lot of trees

and is quite hilly. A perfectlylevel spot is probably a rarefind.

The kids will enjoy thewonderful playground that isnext to the beach. Adjoiningthe beach is a large coveredpavilion with pic-nic tables andrestrooms. Dogsare not allowedon the beach, however no onehas complained

about the fur kids during theoff season when no one isswimming. There are alsonice areas for the dogs near-by on the banks. Some rightin front of the cabins. Forthe boating enthusiast theyhave a 6 lane, paved boatlaunch. There is also a cov-ered, lighted pier/gazebo forfishing from. They do have ahandicap cabin and also rentgolf carts for those who liketo ride and explore the 114acres.

Our morning starts with along walk at sunrise. It’squiet and we get to see a lotherons, egrets, ducks, andgeese feeding near the shore-line. The fishermen startlaunching their boats andhead out into the early morn-ing fog, making gentle wavesupon the bank. A little fun atthe playground, a swimweather permitting, and thenwe are ready for breakfast. There is nothing better than

the smell of baconand a hot cup of cof-fee on a crisp morn-ing. After breakfastthe doggies and Ihead out to the frontporch. They enjoynapping in the sun

and I get caught up on myreading.

Lunchtime brings thereturn of the fishermen withbig stories and grumblingtummies. A light lunch isserved and plans are made forevening get togethers, fol-lowed by everyone goingback to their favorite activi-ties. For me and the doggiesthat means more walks, swimming, reading, napping, and watching the world goby. As the sun starts to setand the evening cools we arereminded to light up the BBQpit and get ready for morestories about the one that gotaway. Why don’t you join ussometime?

Sally Ann is a sweet, spunky young dog thatloves nothing more than

to play and romp outside. SallyAnn came to NOLA after beingsurrendered to a rural shelteroutside of Baton Rouge with her10 puppies. She was a greatmomma to her babies and allher pups went on to find won-derful, loving homes.

Unfortunately, Sally turnedout to be heartworm positiveand had to wait until completingher treatment before she couldbe put up for adoption. Sallynow has a clean bill of health, but has been waiting over a yearfor a family to come along andscoop her up. Sally is estimatedto be about 3 years old andweighs around 60 lbs. She is astocky, compact pup and israther small for her weight.Unlike most NOLA dogs, SallyAnn is not suspected to be partLabrador and is believed to be aShepherd/ Hound mix. However, Sally possesses the

stereotypical Labrador trait ofloving the water and she is agreat swimmer. She is an athlet-ic pup who would be a perfect

Adopt Me!!fit for an active owner or family. She loves running around out-side, whether in a fenced-in yardor on the end of the leash, andshe can keep up with any runningpartner — whether a person or

another pup. Sally Ann would bea great exercise buddy for a verylucky person. Sally has stayed inmultiple homes during her timein foster care with NOLA and hasbeen able to coexist peacefullywith housemates of both the twoand four-leggedvariety. She is cur-rently living in ahome with sixother dogs of alldifferent ages andtemperaments. She plays well

with most other dogs, but she hasan assertive personality and willinitiate rough play if she isallowed to do so. Sally also loveskids and would do well with afamily with children. She waslikely an outside dog for most ofher life before being rescuedfrom the shelter and has a preydrive as a result. She would bebest suited for a home withoutcats or other small animals.Sally Ann is crate trained, housetrained and has shown no signsof food or toy aggression in herfoster home. She rides well in thecar and has adapted well tochanges in environment and liv-ing situation. Her foster momsays that Sally is a smart girl whoknows basic commands andcould be easily trained to suit theneeds of her forever family. Sheis very affectionate and loves tocuddle, but is also an independ-ent and low-maintenance pup.Sally didn’t have the beginningto life that she deserved, but sheis ready for her fairy tale endingwith a loving family and a home

of her own. If you are lookingfor an active companion witha playful, vibrant personality,Sally would be the perfectaddition to your family.
