DANCE

Beginners Argentine Tango

Hello dedicated dancers!! As per request, this increasingly popular dance will be offered for the first time on Bowen. This tango is a dramatic dance that connects you to the heart of your partner and the soul of the music. From origins in Argentina, it is definitely different than Ballroom Tango. It is a more difficult dance than many and having some foundation of other dancing is recommended, although not required. You will learn to connect in a more detailed and intimate fashion, with the results being added enjoyment in a strong dance partnership! Due to added difficulty, in order to maintain a balanced ratio of leaders and followers in this class, A Partner Will Be Required for this class. (we will still rotate partners within the class as per usual lesson format) If you are interested in signing up but are without a partner, a wait list will be set up. See you on the dance floor!!

Exhilarating Indie: Become your own publisher

Authors all over the world are taking back control of the publishing process to reach readers and sell books. Thanks to the Internet and Print on Demand (POD) technology, you can easily meet your own publishing and marketing goals. This three-hour workshop teaches you the basics of “indie” publishing with topics that include creating work you’re proud to sell, publishing it online and in print, and successfully marketing it to readers.

About the Workshop Leader: After decades of writing textbooks for a traditional publisher, Carol Cram decided to take control of her new career as a novelist. She “indie” published her first novel The Towers of Tuscany in early 2014 and in the process learned a great deal of what to do (and not do!). In May of 2014, Lake Union Publishing in the US acquired Carol’s novel. She remains a firm advocate of independent publishing as a positive way to break into the market for thousands of authors.

[Writing] Boot Camp for Procrastinatorswith Ivan E. Coyote

Have you always dreamed of writing your memoirs down but were never sure where to start? Do you have a half-finished masterpiece stuffed into the back of a desk drawer? Still stuck on that not quite fabulous first line? Enlist today. Not tomorrow. Not next year. Today. Fall in and step to as award-winning Ivan Coyote runs you through a series of exercises designed to build up your first line muscles, train yourself to capture those fleeting late night epiphanies, and practice bluffing yourself into believing. This three-hour workshop will take place at the Gallery @ Artisan Square.

About the Facilitator: Ivan E Coyote is an award-winning author of six collections of short stories, one novel, three CDs, four short films and a renowned performer. Ivan tours extensively throughout North America and Europe, telling stories not only to festival audiences, but to high school students, social justice activists, adult literacy students, and senior citizens all across the continent. Ivan believes in the transformative power of storytelling, and that collecting and remembering oral history not only preserves a vital part of our families and where we come from, but that a good story can help inspire us to reinvent a better future.

Ivan will be performing and reading from the author’s latest work on the evening of November 15 at the Galley @ Artisan Square. Please note tickes for the evening performance ONLY will be sold for $20 and are available at the Gallery
