daily lives of the Knights of Templar,

1520: The Fieldof Cloth of GoldHenri VII and Franois 1st
Charles Giry-Deloison and Sophie-Anne Leterrier
The Field of Cloth of Gold, a unique moment in Euro-
pean history, is explored in all its elegance in this
lavishly illustrated book. Although it did not alter the
course of the relations between the two kingdoms, this
brief episode of Anglo-French reconciliation was the
occasion for an extraordinary display of luxury and
riches, whose unequalled profusion enduringly
captured popular imagination. The meeting of Francis I
and Henry VIII from June 7 to June 24, 1520, was above
all a festivalof youth, of knightly ideals, of sensualpleasures, and of insouciance. The book brings to life
this world of political illusion, cultural rivalries, and
the emergence of the French Renaissance and provides
an understanding of the European context that gave
rise to this highly novel encounter. It relives the feasts,
jousting, and masquerades of the Field of Cloth of Gold
and follows the ups and downs of this seemingly im-
possible peace.
Charles Giry-Deloison is professor of early modern his-
tory at the Universit dArtois and fellow of the Royal
Historical Society. He is the author ofLe schisme dHenri
VIII. Sophie-Anne Leterrier is professor of contemporary
history and history of arts at the Universit dArtois.

J. D.Kirszenbaum(19001954)The Lost Generation
La gnration perdue
David Baron de Rothschild,
Nathan Diament,
Dr. Caroline Goldberg Igra,
and Nadine Nieszawer
A testament to an entire generation of
Eastern European Jewry, J. D. Kirszen-
baums artistic uvre is showcased in this
photographic and biographic reference. His
peregrinations, prompted by the need to
escape the oppression of his native Poland,
led to a formal artistic education at the
Bauhaus in Weimar, his eventual integra-
tion into the Berlin gallery scene, and the
all-significant association with the School
of Paris. The perpetual need to flee Nazi
repression resulted in his significant part
among those itinerant artists whoseeking
refuge, education, personal stability and a
sustainable futuredeveloped an art redolent of nostalgia and loss. Presented in this beautiful collection, Kirszenbaums workdocuments both the lives left behind in the shtetls and ghettos of Europe and the perpetual wandering of those searching for
a better future, providing extraordinary insight about the collective experience of a generation now lost.
David Baron de Rothschild is a banker and chairman of Rothschild Continuation Holdings, a Swiss holding. He was formerly a
chairman of De Beers. Nathan Diament is a Holocaust survivor and a member of the Commission for the Recognition of
Righteous Among the Nations. Dr. Caroline Goldberg Igra is an art historian and an educational consultant. She lives in New
York City. Nadine Nieszawer is a member of the French Union of Experts and is a special expert on the School of Paris (1905

Sabine Schellhorn:SealsYvette Deseyve
Artist and designer Sabine Schellhorns most com-prehensive art project, Seals, is featured in this
contemporary exploration. Each day of the year, in
addition to special commissioned works and exhibi-
tions, Schellhorn creates a new seala geometrical
art design that can take varying forms and mediums.
Beginning with linocuts in the mid 1990s, the seals
have been created in everything from salt poured
onto a floor to woven textiles and cut paper, and
their presentation has also been as unpredictably
uniquethe seals may be on the ground, suspended
from ceilings, indoors or out, or some mix of the
above. Displaying these plentiful and playful art-
works, the book is an accessible addition to the ex-
amination of contemporary art and the movement of
artwork into a tactile experience. Schellhorns haptic
drawing and her engagement with the surrounding
environment are fascinating subjects for study in this
book that reflects the relevance of this modern type
of art in the 21st century.

Chen WeiPhotographs by Chen Wei
Iona Whittaker
Presented in this photographic reference are the ethereal
and poetic images of contemporary Chinese artist Chen Wei.His photos are characterized by the use of installation and
cinematic settings and depict dreamlike scenes that do not
naturally occur in daily life. The photographs often incorpo-
rate inspiration and objects from childhood or fantasies jux-
taposed with realities found in modern China. The spirit and
style of Chen Weis photography point toward a new genera-
tion of emerging Chinese artists born in the 1980s who are
less focused on political history or obvious social criticisms
than personal and intellectual freedoms and the individ-
uals place in a now modern and developed China.
Chen Wei is a contemporary photographer and artist. He has
exhibited around the world, including Seoul Museum of Art,
Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, Pingyao Interna-
tional Photography Festival, and Poznan Biennale, and has

Photographs by Li Wei
The unusual artistic work and performances of Chinese
contemporary artist Li Wei are showcased in this beautifulphotographic reference. His work is a mixture of perform-
ance art and photography that creates illusions of a some-
times dangerous reality, and he often depicts himself in
apparently gravity-defying situations through the use of
mirrors, metal wires, scaffolding, and acrobatics. This
book includes Li Weis latest performances in France and
China and is the most up-to-date monograph of his work.
Marine Cabos is a PhD candidate at the School of Oriental
and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, who has
worked in cultural institutions across the world, includingmuseums, foundations, galleries, and art magazines. Her

Kadin on thePath of BashKadin Monique Le HouelleurPhotographs by Uwe Ommer
Inspired by the austerity, emotions, and intensity
of the haiku, acclaimed installation artist Kadin
Monique Le Houelleur traveled across Japan to
create artistic installations in natural surround-
ings, and the results are collected in this stunning
volume. Using water, wood, earth, stones, and
sand, she neither adds nor removes elements from
the area and instead transforms the relationship
between nature and culture imperceptibly. Left on
their own to weather natural elements, these
fleeting creations are only recorded in timethrough the eye of a photographer.
Kadin Monique Le Houelleur is a visual artist. Uwe
Ommer is a photographer. He was awarded an
honorary fellowship to the Royal Photographic So-

My BelgradeSecond edition
Photographs by Boris KraljKevin Braddock
Foreword by Joerg Koch
Twenty years after the breakout of the Yugoslav Wars,
this photographic collection is the evidence of one
mans impulse to document the remaining frag-
ments of the Yugoslav idea in the Serbian capital. It
is a nostalgic project that is done with an earnest-
ness and a naivety of which only someone who has
never lived there could be capable. Photographer
Boris Kralj has Yugoslav parents but was brought up
in Germany, and although the Yugoslav culture was
a large part of his upbringing, the poison of nation-
alism and the horrors of war in the 1990s had a
lasting impact: suddenly, his father and friends be-
came Croats, his relatives Slovenes, acquaintances
Bosnians, and Belgrade an international pariah.
However, the apparent nostalgia of this project is
not reactionary; it responds to a more progressive
idea of a Yugoslav multiculturalism, all the while re-
sisting any idealization of the past. It is a documen-
tary effort that capitulates to big statementsan
approach that would seem made for a region that
bears so many traces of the propagandas of the past.
Boris Kralj is a fashion and documentary photographer. Kevin Braddock is the editor in chief ofSleekmagazine
and a journalist who has contributed to magazines including Esquire, the Face, and GQ. Joerg Koch is the edi-
tor of032cmagazine and a journalist.

Peter McLeaveyAnd the Story of New Zealand Art
Jill Trevelyan
From Montana Book Awardwinning author Jill
Trevelyan comes the first biography of Peter McLeavey,
the charismatic, pioneering art dealer who since the
1950s has shapedeven transformedNew Zealand art.
McLeaveys personal story is remarkable but in it, his
contemporaries will recognize common themes: the
religious upbringing; the struggle to be bohemian in a
repressive, midcentury small town; the quiet agonies
of marriage and children, the need to make a mark.
Through exclusive access to McLeaveys extensive and
hitherto untapped archive of letters, diaries, exhibition
files, and more, this book offers insights into theartists McLeavey has represented across half a century.
Here, in their own wordslively, salty, and often
heartbreakingare Colin McCahon, Toss Woollaston,
Len Lye, Milan Mrkusich, Michael Smither, Gordon
Walters, Michael Illingworth, Don Driver, Robin White,
John Reynolds, Yvonne Todd, and many, many more.
Far more than a simple biography, this is the big story
of contemporary New Zealand art itself, in a period of
massive change and growth, and Trevelyan offers an
utterly fresh and compelling historical account of the
birth of the modern art market and the status of art today. A must-read for anyone interested in New Zealands art, culture, or history.
Jill Trevelyan is a curator and writer specializing in New Zealand art from the mid-20th century. She was the editor of
