benchesat harmonyheadlands
Four benches are
now installed and in use
at Harmony HeadlandsState Park. The benches are located to allow hikers to rest if they need to and to enjoy the
beautiful views. CLC and State Parks worked together to determine the number of benches
and their location.
CLC wants to thank supporters Julia and Gordon Held and Evelyn and David
Dabritz for their generous contributions which made the purchase of these
benches possible. The Helds and Dabritzs funded these benches so that Harmony
Headlands can be more accessible to a broader range of visitors. Their donations
are greatly appreciated.
interpretive panels at estero bluffs Four beautiful interpretive panels will be installed at Estero Bluffs sometime
at the beginning of November. They will be placed just inside the four main
entrances to the park and out of sight of the highway.
The intent of these panels is to educate visitors about the history and
resources of the property and to communicate how to best protect this beautiful
setting. CLC is funding the panels at an approximate cost of $8,000. The Board
decided to use donations received from generous supporters in the last few years
rather than launch a fundraising campaign.
The panels and mounts are both of the best quality and designed to withstand
coastal weather as well as attempts to vandalize. The wording, photos and layout
are a result of the efforts of State Parks staff and CLC volunteers including graphic
designer, Rocki deLlamas.
We hope that all friends, members and supporters of CLC will take the time to
enjoy this new addition to our coast.
messagefrom thepresident CLC is very happy to send you this more
visually pleasing newsletter with pictures of
exciting CLC accomplishments. We really
wanted to provide you with quality photos and
decided the additional expense for the upgraded
newsletter is a good investment. We hope you
agree.
Some of the projects highlighted in this
issue, like the interpretive panels and the culvert
removal, have taken years to complete. Others,
like the Harmony Headlands benches, took only
months. But in either case we would like you
to keep in mind that at the same time CLC is
working on these projects we continue to work
hard on our ongoing responsibilities as a land
conservancy. Those ongoing responsibilities
are: developing and implementing policies and
procedures, monitoring CLCs conservation
easements, creating and implementing a Board
development program, and acquiring antiquated
hillside lots.
All of these undertakings take time
and energy to bring to fruition. As an all-
volunteer organization, CLC is always looking
for individuals to help with its work. If youwould like to be involved in some way, please
contact us. Thanks for your support and
encouragement.

rememberingeugene conord CLC wishes to extend its thanks to the
friends and family of Eugene Conord who made
generous donations in his memory. Mr. Conord, who was 88, lived in Fresno and always said
his favorite getaway was the beach in Cayucos.
These donations will be used to preserve
the beauty of the area that Mr. Conord so
appreciated.

I want to help preserve the natural areas around Cayucos
san geronimo creek upgrade A large cement box culvert, approximately 12 x 12 x 90 and weighing several tons, was
removed from San Geronimo Creek in September. The box culvert allowed the creek to flow
under old Highway 1, however, over the last 20 years it has become the cause of significant bank
erosion. After the broken culvert is removed the re-vegetation of the creek is planned. State Parks
has worked for several years with California Department of Fish and Game, Coastal Commission,
CLC, SLO County, and the Civilian Conservation Corps to make this improvement happen. The
work is being carried out by Negranti Construction and the Civilian Conservation Corps.
When the San Geronimo Creek work is completed culvert removal and restoration work is
planned at the much smaller Swallow Creek, located near the northern end of the Estero Bluffs.
The Swallow Creek work will be much less complicated but is nevertheless badly needed.
