While we are physically apart, let us never neglect to gather our love for God
and for one another together. In these uncertain times,
we will root ourselves in the love of God, which will never fail or falter.
Whether you call Trinity Church home or whether you are visiting
with us today, we are glad you are “here” and we pray that these moments of worship are
a blessing to you. If you or someone you know has a need, please contact the church by
means offered in the announcements section of this order of worship.
May the grace and peace of the Risen Lord Jesus be with you!

WELCOME THE REVEREND JAKE CLAWSON
PRELUDE Shall We Gather at the River? tune: Robert Lowry
Julia Nelson, piano arr. Dale Wood
CALL TO WORSHIP THE REVEREND KELLY STAPLES
We hear the good news of undying love and our hearts shift within us.
What do we do now?
Jesus comes, brimming with the presence of God in words of overwhelming blessing
and the power of resurrection life.
What do we do now?
Jesus promises to be with us to the end of all days,
and sends us out as his presence in the world.
What do we do now?
This journey is sure to change us,
for on it, we will follow the Shepherd, who is our home wherever we are.
We will build for the kingdom,
tending faithfully to the work God has given us where we are.
We will find the bridge that connects our lives to one another.
We will give ourselves, in this moment and every moment,
to the Living God, that we might find life.
Let us worship God!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Loving God,
in whom we live and move and have our being,
open us to your presence,
that we may keep the commands of Jesus,
follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit,
and witness to the hope that is within us,
sharing Christ’s love in the world. Amen.
HYMN God Is Calling Through the Whisper #410
CALL TO CONFESSION THE REVEREND JOHN ZEIGLER
When the first to hear the good news that their hopes were not dashed upon Jesus’ death,
but redoubled at his resurrection, they were cut to the heart and asked,
“What should we do?”
Peter’s response was that they should turn their lives to God and be baptized,
a symbol of their lives being drenched in the life, the love,
the grace, and the purpose of Christ’s own life.
Let us follow in their faithful footsteps by turning our lives toward God.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty and All-Gracious God,
We confess that in our confusion and in our discontent,
we do not always act out of our holiest impulses.
When our lives spin out of control,
we grasp for an axis upon which the world can turn again.
Therefore, we create idols because we were made to serve something.
We serve our desire for wealth.
We serve our longing to be presentable and respectable.
We serve our yearning to be safe.
We serve ourselves first.
Forgive us.
Teach us to trust you and to lean upon you.
Teach us the great purpose that our lives were meant to serve,
pouring ourselves out and finding that new life rises unexplainably within us.
Teach us who you have made us to be and center our hearts in yours…
MOMENT OF SILENT CONFESSION
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Who you were is not who you shall be!
For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Hear and believe the Good News!
In Jesus Christ, we are God’s beloved and we are forgiven! Amen! Ephesians 2:10
GLORIA PATRI
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
And to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
And the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen (3x)
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, Amen.
PASSING OF CHRIST’S PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you!
And also with you.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION THE REVEREND DR. LUCIA KREMZAR
May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation as we come to know him,
so that, with the eyes of our hearts enlightened,
we may know what is the great hope to which we have been called,
what are the riches of God’s glorious inheritance given to his children,
and what is the immeasurable magnitude of his power for us who believe,
according to the working of his infinite power within and around us.
May he bring to completion the good work that he has begun within us,
and may he continue it now through the proclamation of the good news,
through Christ and in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen. Based on Ephesians 1:17-19 and Philippians 1:6
EPISTLE READING I Peter 3:13-22
Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? But even if you do suffer for
doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, and do not be intimidated, but
in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who
demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and
reverence. Keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who abuse you
for your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if
suffering should be God’s will, than to suffer for doing evil.
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring
you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, in which also he went
and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, who in former times did not obey, when God
waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is,
eight persons, were saved through water.
And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body,
but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has
gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made
subject to him.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

SERMON READING Acts 17:22-28 THE REVEREND JAKE CLAWSON
Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, “Athenians, I see how extremely religious
you are in every way. For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your
worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What
therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and
everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human
hands, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives
to all mortals life and breath and all things. From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the
whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where
they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him—
though indeed he is not far from each one of us. For ‘In him we live and move and have our
being’; as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
SERMON Finding the Bridge
PASTORAL PRAYER AND LORD’S PRAYER (DEBT/DEBTORS) THE REVEREND KELLY STAPLES
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
HYMN Love Divine, All Loves Excelling #366
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH A Brief Statement of Faith Book of Confessions 11.4-6
In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage
to pray without ceasing,
to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in Church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced,
and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit,
we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks
and to live holy and joyful lives,
even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth,
praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death
can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
