Dear Friends,

What a joy to celebrate our Christ’s birth with the

12 days of Christmas at our Christmas Eve Service.

As you receive this newsletter, we are in the midst

of living out those 12 Days. On January 6th we

celebrate Epiphany, also known as Three Kings’

Day.

Epiphany is the climax of the Advent/Christmas

Season and the Twelve Days of Christmas, which

are usually counted from the evening of December

25th until the morning of January 6th, which is the

Twelfth Day. This is an occasion for feasting in

some cultures, including the baking of a special

King's Cake as part of the festivities of Epiphany.

Epiphany means "to show" or "to make known" or

even "to reveal." We remember the coming of the

wise men bringing gifts to visit the Christ child,

who by so doing "reveal" Jesus to the world as Lord

and King.

God continues to reveal Jesus to the world as we

live faithful lives as witnesses to the transforming

power of God. Just as the Kings or Wisemen

traveled for over 2 years looking for The Christ,

The King of Kings, the Messiah, there are many in

our world seeking a savior in their lives. Will they

find us pointing to the Christ? Will we be a light

shining in the darkness that helps them make their

way to Jesus?

Come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord as we seek

to love our neighbors and live our lives revealing

God’s grace in our world.

Are you praying for our church and the pastor God

will send in July? Please lift Bishop Hopkins, our

District Supt. Judy Wismar Claycomb and the

Cabinet as they discern the best candidate to lead

Faith into the future.

Leaning into the Future with Hope,

Rev. Donna

A GIFT TO Faith’s endowment fund

is a gift that will last forever.

SOUP & SANDWICH LUNCHEON

The UMW will hold its annual "Soup and Sandwich

Luncheon" January 5, 2014 after the second

service. Woody Plank and John Grover are getting

their soup recipes ready.

The cost for this delicious luncheon will be a free will

donation. All of the money collected will go toward

missions that will help people locally and around the

world.

Please join us for this time of fellowship and good food

and help us raise money to support our mission

projects.

As we bid farewell to the old year, all of us have so

much for which to be thankful. One of my blessings

is receiving the Christmas staff remembrance gift

from the congregation. Thank you very much.

The second of my many blessings is the wonderful

group of folks known collectively as “The Choir.”

Or, as they refer to themselves: “The Gang.” Many

years ago there was a popular song called “Little

Things Mean A Lot.” Indeed, little things do mean a

lot and so do big things! Perhaps the largest “thing”

is a thank you to each person in the choir for working

so diligently on the music. But there’s also gratitude

for a lot of other kindness you constantly and

consistently give and share. Whether it’s helping to

set up and put away chairs, gather up and sort music,

hold the lounge door open as we exit on Sunday

mornings, a plate of cookies, helpful suggestions –

whatever it is – you are always ready to help.

Thank you for the special ways you care. Thank you

to each one for your love and friendship. As the New

Year rapidly approaches, we cannot know what

challenges and joys it will bring, but one thing is

certain: Together, as a choir, we’ll continue to sing,

worship and praise God!

Sing’ ~ cerely,

Nancy What wondrous love!

Thank you for all of the generous gifts given out of love

and charity for the residents of Flat Rock, and our

Salvation Army Families!

There were almost 90 gifts for Flat Rock, and a few of

our Youth and adults spent an evening wrapping gifts for

the residents there. And you didn’t stop there!

When we adopted 2 families with 9 children, you once

again responded with generous hearts, and each of our 9

Children adopted through the Salvation Army received

3 gifts each.

We also provided Holiday meals for our families and

supported the Fish Food Pantry! Whew! What a

blessing all of you have been to so many this Holy

Season!

Thank you to the carolers who sang so

beautifully to us. Our son, Mike, and his wife,

and our three little granddaughters were visiting

and the carolers were the perfect ending to a

wonderful afternoon. We enjoyed seeing so

many of our friends.

Love-Hal & Marlene Philbrook

4 week study

by Rob Bell

Week 1: Rain- When things don't always work out

the way we want them to, we wonder how God can

let these things happen to us. How can God just

stand by and watch us suffer?

Week 2: Flame - What's up with the word "love"?.

Maybe we don't really understand what real love is.

But God wired us in a certain way to experience all

that love was really meant to be.

Week 3: Trees - Why are we here? Do our lives

really matter? Is our religion relevant to this life?

Week 4: Sunday - Why do we go to church or give

money away? We’re tired of the empty rituals and

so is God.

We invite you to start your new year as part of this

Tues. night study. Come to one or all of the

sessions! They are designed to draw us deeper in

our spiritual walk with God.

The Landing’s Chalk Art donation created Nov. 20th

during their program by “His Blank Canvas”. It is

approximately 8 feet tall, and has been donated to the

church, it will find a home in the Fellowship Hall.

More information about “His Blank Canvas”

Kevin is originally from Rochester, NY, where he

studied Commercial Art for two years. Kevin

creates canvas paintings and art designs, but his true

passion is graffiti art. Mandy is originally

from Upper Sandusky, OH, and she holds a Bachelor

degree in Art Education from BGSU. Mandy

enjoys painting and also has a special interest in

chalk talks and pastels.

Kevin and Mandy were introduced through a

worship leader at their church, Trinity Evangelical.

Kevin was asked to share his art during an Easter

service at church several years ago. After a

trial run, he realized he wouldn't be able to complete

the drawing in the given time frame. The worship

leader suggested that he ask Mandy to work with him

and together, Kevin and Mandy created a beautiful

art visual during worship that Easter Sunday. This

was the first of many opportunities for them to use

their God-given gift of art.

Kevin and Mandy have been asked to use their art in

worship at many churches, youth groups,

banquets, conferences, and other events in the area.

They had the opportunity to lead thousands of people

into a meaningful worship experience through their

art ministry.

It is amazing to watch the two of them work side by

side, creating a giant masterpiece. All glory

goes to Jesus.

Upcoming Youth Events:

On January 25th our youth will be joining other area

church youth groups and traveling to Snow Trails Ski

Resort in Mansfield. We will be meeting at First

Lutheran Church to car pool (after enjoying some

donuts and juice). Cost is $12 if you are under the

age of 12 and $24 if older than 12 (for two hours of

tubing). After we go tubing, we will share a time of

fellowship over lunch.

On February 23rd we will be going to Findlay to play

Laser Tag! Don’t miss out on this fun and exciting

outing!

Please see Greg Harkins for more details and to sign

up! Don’t miss out!

During these cold winter months, please note that

church services will be cancelled and the church

will be closed if Seneca County is placed under a

Level 3 Advisory. Please use caution when

traveling this winter!

The Staff of Faith UMC says…

Thank you so very much for your generosity

at Christmas time!

It was greatly appreciated!
