VOLUME 35–NO. 10 OCTOBER 2012
We’re just finishing up our Sunday morning series on the book of James called “The
Sanctified Life.” I pray that James has challenged you to follow God’s will in every area of
your life and continue to grow in your relationship with
the Lord.
There is a great temptation to stop growing
in our walk with God and settle for less than the
best that God has in store for us. Our sinful nature
tells us to take the easy way out, to go with the flow or
follow the crowd. Our sinful pride tells us that our own
desires are to be trusted and our own way is best. But the
Holy Spirit, who is at work in our hearts, empowers us to
hear God’s Word applied to our lives and follow where
Jesus leads.
Do you engage in a way of living that you
know isn’t right, but has become comfortable to
you? Are there areas of your life where you’ve gotten used to being out of step with God’s de-
sires? Living “The Sanctified Life” might mean giving up a way of living that has become natu-
ral and easy for you. It might mean standing up for the truth even when it is unpopular. It
might mean changing the way that you speak, or the way that you treat others.
At first, it may be difficult. It may be challenging. But consider it a privilege and a gift
that you’re called to live as a child of God; you’ve been given what Jesus calls, “life to the
full” (John 10:10). And living God’s way is more rewarding than you could even
imagine.
The work that God has done in Christ leads to the work that God is doing within us
(sanctification). God has saved us in Jesus, apart from any work that we have done, but
God also wants to use us to further the kingdom. The apostle Paul says it this way: “For it
is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)
What works has God prepared for you? What fullness of life might be waiting when you
step out in faith to follow where Christ leads? Be led by God (not your own desires) and
you can be sure you’ll end up in the right place. “Humble yourselves before the Lord and
He will lift you up” (James 4:10).

A Christian will benefits you and your family. A well-planned will or trust can
avoid many problems and will properly provide for your family and express your
love for the Lord. Does your will or trust have all the provisions needed to avoid a
large tax burden that could have been avoided with proper tax-avoidance planning?
It is important that you have a will and/or trust to protect your family from difficulty
and distribute your assets in accordance with your wishes.
Your Stewardship Board is hosting a 1-1½ hour long Christian Wills workshop on
Sunday, October 28 at 12 noon in the basement fellowship hall. Neal Koch, Gift
Planning Counselor for the Nebraska District LCMS, will be our guest speaker for
this information-based, free, no obligation workshop. A complimentary lunch will be provided by Runcie’s Catering.
You must register in advance by October 21st by calling the church office (462-5044) or registering in the forum on
October 14 or 21st. For further information, please call Ellen Jank at 461-3734.
The following topics will be covered:
▪ Could you use more retirement income from your savings ▪ Charitable Remainder Unitrust
▪ Avoiding the potential double tax on qualified retirement plans ▪ Estate plans for women

bonds of friendship.

Obscure Books of the New Testament - Lots of folks have read through Romans or
Ephesians; the four Gospels are full of familiar stories and teachings. But what about the book of
Jude? Or Second and Third John? Or Philemon (no, not filet mignon!) Come learn more about
these lesser-known letters of the New Testament to see what God has to teach us through them.
One hundred thirty adults have participated in a Bible Study at Faith
in the last 30 days. Are you one of the 130? If not, then maybe now is a
good time to get started. Check out all the different options available to
you and see which one you’d like to try. Hope to see you here soon to
share in the feast of God’s Word!

Pantry to help local families in need. Our Food Pantry ministry is ongoing
and if you would like to help support this ministry simply bring your dona-
tions of canned or packaged non-perishable items to church. We have gro-
cery carts located in the forum and in the back of the sanctuary for your
donations. Every contribution helps...small or large!
A BIG thank you to everyone who helped with our annual Fall clean-up day at church. With all of us
working together we can accomplish so much in caring for our church building and grounds.
