SAMPLE LETTER TO FAIRFAX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ON MEALS TAX REFERENDUM
Dear Fairfax County Board of Supervisors,
I own [a restaurant, restaurant name, several restaurants, etc…] in [Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, Alexandria, Arlington, Loudoun County] and I am writing to urge you to reconsider the meals tax referendum in Fairfax County.
In light of climbing food prices, increasing transportation taxes and rising health care costs, the addition of a meals tax will further increase the cost of doing business and add unnecessary administrative complexity to my restaurant operations. Wait staff will be impacted as well, as diners may be prompted to tip less.
We ask that you think about how this measure will impact small businesses and may disrupt future investment by the restaurant industry in Fairfax County.
