I also want to express my appreciation because I get to interact with them each day. Fairbrook truly is a ―Great Place To Live and Learn‖ and it is because of our community. Our community consists of each of the children, parents, staff, and everyone who lives around here. Without our community, we would not be able to be as successful as we are. We have volunteers at school each and every day. Some tutor, some organize books or help in the cafeteria or library, some give assessments or grade papers, others help plan all of our PTO events and activities. All give their time, talents, and often money to help our students. Our volunteer luncheon this week was a small token of our appreciation, but words cannot express how important each of you is to Fair- brook and to me personally. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! The calendar is full so be sure to check it frequently. We finished our first week of testing and have one to go. The students are taking it seriously, our attendance has been amazing, and I know they will do well. They have worked hard all year so they are prepared. I’m sure they will be happy to get this part of the year behind them, but I am proud that they are trying hard. Besides studies, our kiddos are involved in all sorts of sports, music, and other activities outside of school. The weather is getting nicer each day and I hope they are getting out for some fresh air. Hopefully, we will be able to have out- door recess most of the time. It is too pretty to stay inside. Please remind them that they still need to get enough rest and that in class they need to concentrate and do their work. PTO has been busy with Food4Fund$, movie night, Kroger sign up incentives and much more. We just installed the new leaders for next year and will be meeting in the next months to set up next year’s calendar. They have some great ideas and lots of fun things planned. They want to take a whole different approach to fund raising (no more Entertain- ment Books or Nut Sales). You will be receiving more infor- mation over the next month, but I am excited. The emphasis will be on getting everyone involved, parent, teacher, commu- nity member, and student. The theme will be around healthy living and activity. I can’t wait! Muffins With Mom, the Spring Book Fair, Family Fun Night, and other activities are still in the works for this year. Make sure to check the calendar. You don’t want to miss a minute of all the fun! Please be sure you dress your children in layers so they can be prepared for the ever changing weather. If your children have PE, please make sure they wear or bring sneak- ers on PE day. Other footwear can be dangerous, even if it is super cute. IN THIS ISSUE Principal’s Post 2013-2014 School Calendar Volunteers Needed Congratulations! A BIG thank you to Mrs. Dillon and her troop for doing spring cleaning of the front flower beds and pulling off the dead plants from last fall. They also planted a few flowers in the planter by the front door. We are ready for spring and summer!

Kindergarten Assessment When: May 13, 14, 15 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) Where: Fairbrook Elementary Time: Shifts each day from 7:30AM-11:00AM or 11:40AM to 2:30PM Volunteers are needed to sign in students for assessment, take photos of students, make appointment reminder calls, and various other little jobs. Since the assessments are held at the building, any questions that cannot be answered can be referred to the office or the counselor. Please call the office if you would like to volun-teer — 429-7616.

Student Council would like to thank everyone that helped us raise money for Owen’s Place. Through the candy sales and hat day, we were able to raise $964 for this wonderful cause. Hopefully this summer you will have an opportunity to go to Rotary Park and see firsthand the progress being made at Owen’s Place thanks, in part, to the donations made through all of the Beavercreek schools.

CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Lamb, Grade 1, for being nominated and chosen as one of two elementary teach-ers to receive the Beavercreek City Schools Teacher of the Year award.

KINDERGARTEN & 1ST GRADE REGISTRATION FOR 2013-2014

You can still register your child for Kindergar-ten and first grade at the Fairbrook school office until May 11th. Registration after that date will be held at the Board of Education Office, 3040 Kemp Road, by appoint-ment only. Kindergarten attendance is mandatory in the State of Ohio prior to enrollment in first grade. To be eligi-ble for kindergarten, a child must be five years of age by September 30, 2013. For your convenience, and to expedite registra-tion, parents may pick up kindergarten packets in the building office. Packets for incoming first graders are available on-line at http://www.beavercreek.k12.oh.us and then click on Student Registration. To be eligible to enroll in first grade, students must have successfully completed an accredited Kindergarten program. It is vital that children who will be attending kin-dergarten and newly enrolling in first grade in the fall be registered at this time. This enables the school system to make arrangements for placement, classroom facilities, teaching materials, and transportation. If you have any questions regarding kindergarten registration, please contact the building office (429-7616) or the Pupil Services Department at 458-2414.

ANKENEY INCOMING 6TH GRADE STUDENT/PARENT ORIENTATION MEETING

NEW FAIRBROOK FUNDRAISER

Are you ready for some Fairbrook spirit!! This fall the PTO will be introducing a new fundraiser. This fund-raiser will REPLACE both Entertainment Book Sales and Nut Sales. Students and staff will be participating in a 1/2-mile Fairbrook obstacle course pledge-a-thon. The goal of this event is to both raise money for the Fairbrook PTO (that means our students and school!) and to raise awareness of the benefits that come from an active, healthy lifestyle. We are currently looking for three or more volun-teers to help us solicit local businesses for donations sup-porting prize packages. Lists of specific vendors and sample letters for requests will be provided to keep this job simple. If you have a business and feel you might be in-terested in helping support this new fundraiser through a donation or other means, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Kate Wagner at [email protected] if you have questions or would like to help with volunteering or donations. We look forward to kicking off this great new event!
