FAIR and the IE

• Call released in January 2002• Inspired by the vision of the Open Archives

Initiative (OAI)• Within the IE, FAIR will build repositories

which can staff and students can use to lodge and exchange content

• It will also provide information about the organisational, technical and cultural challenges in developing these “places” and the processes involved

Advocacy – Avoiding ESpace

• to create an Open Access culture• to gather content for the range of Open

guidelines and processes of the services• to formulate an exit strategy that ensures an

embedded and ongoing service

The University of Glasgow repositories will exist, not in competition with the subject based archives, which are already established but rather as a

complementary Institutional resource.

• ePrints version 2.0 launched 14 Feb 02• We are currently running 2.2• 67+ sites now running ePrints• http://software.eprints.org
