Fitts, Wilma, who made history in 1943 when she became one of the first two women traders on
the old Honolulu Stock Exchange, died Jan. 12 at the age of 92 in her Hawaii Kai home. Fitts
and Milly C. Henderson were the first women in the world to trade on a stock exchange floor. “It
took a war to get me admitted,” Fitts said in a 1971 interview. “The only reason for letting
anything wearing a skirt on the exchange was the lack of qualified men during World War II.”
Fitts traded on the exchange for the Bishop Trust Co. for several years. She later founded her
own Honolulu brokerage business, Wilma Fitts Co. She is survived by four grand-nieces in
