REPORT ON VIRTUAL BAJASAEINDIA 2016

BAJA SAEINDIA is a national level All Terrain Vehicle Racing Event organised by

SAEINDIA and Mahindra and Mahindra for the college students. The event is conducted in

two phases.

1. Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA – Design and Presentation of All Terrain Vehicle based

on the rule book released by BAJA Organising Committee.

2. Main BAJA SAEINDIA – The selected students from the design presentation

event will be allowed to manufacture their own All Terrain Vehicle and the same

will be tested in NATRAX, Pithampur.

Virtual BAJASAEINDIA 2016 was hosted at Faculty of Engineering, Christ University,

Bengaluru on 24th

and 25th

June 2016.

Day 0:

The event started on 23-06-2016 with a press meet at JW Marriot, Bengaluru where

press people were briefed about the BAJA SAEINDIA 2017.

It began at 12pm and was concluded by 2:30 pm.

Dr. Iven Jose, Dr. GS Hebbar and Mr. Glady Jacob were the representatives of Christ

University who participated in the press conference.

Abhijeet Sanchawat, co-covenor of Virtual BAJA SAE India 2016, P.S. Nitish, convenor of

Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA 2016, Ravi Kharul, convenor of BAJA SAEINDIA 2017 and Dr.

K.C. Vora, director or ARAI Academy along with the student representative of RV college,

winner of BAJA SAEINDIA 2016, Pithampur was present.

The judges meet happened at 6:30 pm. It was held at Block 1 Auditorium of Christ

University Faculty of Engineering, Kengeri Campus.

Dr. K.C. Vora and the other organization committee members briefed the judges and the

other alumni coordinators about the complete programme, which was followed by dinner.

Day : 1

The first day of Virtual BAJASAEINDIA started with an inaugural function which started

with an invocation dance performed by Prof. Prabin and his students.

The inaugural function was followed by lighting of lamp by the dignitaries.

Dr. K C Vora, Director, ARAI Academy, Pune felicitated Fr. Benny Thomas,

Director, Faculty of Engineering, Christ University, Bengaluru with a bouquet. Mr. Ravi

Kharul, Convener, BAJASAEINDIA 2017 felicitated Mr. Munirathnam, Chairman,

SAEINDIA Bengaluru Section with a bouquet. Dr. G S Hebbar, Coordinator, Department of

Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Christ University, Bengaluru felicitated Dr.

K C Vora and Mr. Ravi Kharul with a bouquet. Mr. N. Ram Kumar, Assistant Professor,

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Christ University,

Bengaluru felicitated Mr. Subodh Y Moyre, Senior Manager, Mahindra India Pvt Ltd,

Mumbai and Mr. Shaan Varma, Co-Convener, BAJA SAEINDIA 2017.

Mr. Ravi Kharul, CTO, Endurance Technologies, Pune graced the occasion with this

welcome address in welcoming the delegates from the host institution and from various

industries. He added that Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA has been one of the most magnificent

automotive event in the country for the past 10 years.

Fr. Benny Thomas, Director, Faculty of Engineering, Christ University, Bengaluru

graced the occasion with his presidential address and he further explained about the Virtual

BAJA SAEINDIA event to the delegates.

Inauguration of Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA 2016

The inauguration was followed by the design presentation which was held in the classrooms

of Block – II. About 380 teams from Engineering Colleges all over India participated in this

event. The event was conducted two phases:

1. Design Presentation – Held on 24th

and 25th

June 2016.

2. Written Test – Held on 24th

June 2016 from 05:30 to 06:30 PM.

Design Presentation:

The design presentation was judged by the experts from leading core Mechanical

Industries. The event was judged by 70 judges in 20 different panels (3 to 4 judges per panel).

The designs of All Terrain Vehicle were thoroughly scrutinized by the judges under various

categories. Each team was given 20 minutes to present the design of their vehicle. The

presentations were held at Block – 2 Classrooms and Seminar Halls.

About 380 teams from various Engineering colleges all over India participated in this event.

Design Presentation by the Students

Written Test:

The written test was conducted in online mode for the first time since the inception of

BAJA SAEINDIA. The written test was conducted in three different venues.

1. Block – I - Computer Labs.

2. Block – III – Class rooms.

3. Block – IV – Computer Labs.

A total of 1900 students took the online test from 05:30 to 06:30 PM and the results were

declared at 07:00 PM.

The students were tested on the basics of mechanical and automobile engineering.

Day 2:

The design presentation was conducted for the remaining teams in Block – 2 on the last day

from 09:30 AM to 04:00 PM.

The Valedictory function commenced at 05:00 PM.

felicitated Dr. K C Vora, Director, ARAI Academy with a bouquet. Dr. G S Hebbar, HOD,

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Christ University,

Bengaluru felicitated Dr. Vinay Mundada with a bouquet.

Dr. Iven Jose and Dr. G S Hebbar felicitated the BAJA Organising Committee

members with a memento. Mr. Ravi Kharul felicitated Dr. G S Hebbar with a memento. Dr.

Sudhir Gupte felicitated Mr. N. Ram Kumar with a memento. Dr. K C Vora, Mr. Subodh

Moyre and Mr. Ravi Kharul felicitated Dr. Iven Jose with a Framed Shield from BAJA

SAEINDIA 2017 team.

Dr. Iven Jose addressed with gathering with his informative speech and he thanked

the BAJA SAEINDIA 2017 team for conducting Virtual BAJA at our campus. He also

thanked the management and the volunteers and faculty coordinators for their tireless efforts

to make the event a grand success.

Mr. Subodh Moyre addressed the gathering by thanking the management of Christ

University for allowing BAJA SAEINDIA 2017 to host Virtual BAJA at the campus. He also

appreciated about the infrastructure of the institution and the other facilities available at the

campus. He was pleased with the hospitality of the students and the faculty members.
