The Faculty of Education was formed in 1999. Until then, it had been part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Most of the Faculty’s activities are concentrated to the Pedagogen complex in central Gothenburg. The Faculty moved to the present location from Mölndal (immediately south of Gothenburg) in 2006. Pedagogen was built on a historic site with remains from the 1600s. For example, part of the city’s old fortification Carolus Dux is visible for public view. Pedagogen’s building A was erected in 1855 and served as a hospital until 1900. Building C, originally a school building, stood finished in 1862. Building B is the area’s most recent addition, built in 2006. In 2011, the School of Sport Science opened at Skånegatan. The building gathers applied researchand education related to sports, health and nutrition under one roof, and many of the Faculty’s students complete parts of their education there.
