The incidence of obesity has increased dramatically over the past 20 years and is considered to be an epidemic in the United States. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity now affects more than one-third (36.5%) of adults in the United States. It is also a risk factor for some of the leading causes of preventable death, including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and certain cancers. Despite the availability of clinical practice guidelines and effective therapies, they are not utilized by many health care providers. This CME series, Obesity Forum® 2017, aims to provide health care professionals with guidance on the appropriate use of therapies and strategies for delivering individualized care to patients with overweight or obesity via a multidisciplinary team. It will incorporate didactic presentations and interactive case-based discussions, as well as question-and-answer periods, to engage learners, facilitating better application of information into clinical practice.

lEaRning ObjECtivES

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

• Apply current practice guidelines and quality indicators to optimize screening, diagnosis, and treatment of obesity.

• Implement a multidisciplinary team approach to address the full spectrum of weight-related issues and overall health concerns for patients with overweight or obesity.

• Utilize effective strategies to enhance patient adherence to behavior and lifestyle modifications for the management of overweight or obesity.

• Identify patients likely to benefit from anti-obesity medications and individualize therapy according to the benefit-risk profiles of pharmacotherapies as well as patients’ specific characteristics and needs.

• Select appropriate candidates for bariatric surgery, initiate referrals for weight-loss procedures, and provide comprehensive postsurgical management.

taRgEt aUdiEnCE

The intended audience for this activity is internal medicine physicians, general practice physicians, family practice physicians, endocrinologists, cardiologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with overweight or obesity.

ADA compliance: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate persons with disabilities. Please call with your requests. Priority Code: 472 - 1 2 3
