WHO CAN ATTEND?

Computer Simulations is a practical approach to the quantitative analysis of a network.

Network simulators serve a variety of needs. Compared to the cost and time involved in

setting up an entire test bed containing multiple networked computers, routers and data links,

network simulators are relatively fast and inexpensive. They allow researchers/engineers to

test scenarios that might be particularly difficult or expensive to emulate using real hardware

for instance, simulating the effects of a sudden burst in traffic or a DoS attack on a network

service.

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) aims at deliberation, sharing knowledge to the

target audience about the significance of NS-2 and present current research opportunities in

this field. The discussion shall foster inter-disciplinary collaborative research in networking

using NS-2. Also this program provides an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on the

topics of importance along with thought provoking technical sessions.

NS-2 is a very popular discrete event Network Simulator which is widely used in the research

field of Wired, Wireless and Satellite Networks across both academia and industry as a way of

designing, testing and evaluating new and existing protocols and architectures, and has also

proven a very useful tool for teaching purposes.

NS-2 comes fully equipped of protocols, models, algorithms and accessory tools. NS-2 is an

open source network simulator which is freely available for academic research purpose.

Therefore, in terms of scientific acceptance, number of tools/modules and cost, NS-2 would

be a sort of ideal choice.

NS-2 is an event driven network simulator developed at UC Berkeley that simulates variety of

IP networks. It started as a variant of the REAL network simulator in 1989 and has since been

supported by the Virtual Inter Network Testbed (VINT) project that is a DARPA-funded

research project whose aim is to build a network simulator. NS-2 uses two languages C++ to

implement protocols and Object Oriented Tcl (OTcl) for configuration and simulation the

scripts.

With the above stated objectives, an extensive coverage will be provided in this faculty

development program on the following aspects:

The sessions of this Faculty Development Program shall be conducted by the team of eminent

academicians & industry experts possessing in-depth knowledge in the area of network

simulator. It will consist of a series of lectures and hands-on practical sessions.

This Faculty Development Program is especially designed for faculty members of engineering

colleges affiliated to Dr. A.P.J.A.K. Technical University, Lucknow. The faculty members of

other courses who are interested to enhance research skills can also join this Program.

to 4.30 pm everyday.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology of SRMS College of Engineering & Technology,

Bareilly will award the 'Certificate of Participation” to each participant after completion of the program.

The college will provide free accommodation and fooding to each outstation participants of this Faculty Development

Program. The participants who need accommodation during Faculty Development Program are required to make request for

that in the registration form.

The Faculty Development Program fee is ` 2000/- per participant. However, The Chairman, SRMS Trust will reimburse

`1000/- per participant to encourage research and development among participants. Hence, the registration fee for the FDP

will be ̀ 1000/- per participant.
