This workshop focused on Research procedures. As a researcher, it is mandatory for one to know

the basics of research, in order to satisfy the purpose of research and establish an acceptable

conclusion. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, MVJCE,

conducted a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Advanced Research Trends in

Speech and Image Processing’, from 21.01.2019 to 25.01.2019.

Creation and dissemination of knowledge through research is one of the core functions of higher

education institutions. Apart from generating new knowledge, engineering and technology

institutions have the responsibility of developing technologies useful for mankind. Speech and

Image Processing is a scientific discipline as well as technology frontier, with immense

applications.

The objective of this Faculty Development Program was to introduce the participants to the

world of Speech and Image processing, and give an insight into how and where it can be used.

This FDP proved to be an eye-opening session for beginner and middle level researchers, and

also aimed at imparting the skills required to handle different tools and technologies that are

useful during the entire process of research and scholarly communications. This FDP intended to

orient participants towards developing their own research plans, paying due attention to every

stage of research.

The sessions were handled by Professors and Industry personnel from reputed Institutions and

Industry. The FDP was attended by 43 participants - faculty members from ECE, EEE, CSE, IT,

ML and Mathematics departments, research scholars and PG students from inside and outside

Karnataka.

most widely used advance strategies in Multimedia Communication areas like image processing,

speech processing, video processing etc. The participants gained fundamental knowledge of

speech and image processing techniques. This FDP was immensely useful for the beginner level

and middle level research scholars. The research scholars can get technical inputs for their

research work from the Resource Persons. This in turn will help in motivating participants as

well as students, and accentuate the placement opportunities of students.

The following Feedback was received from the participants:

1. 86% of the participants felt that the delivery and presentation of the Resource Persons

were good.

2. 90% of the participants were of the opinion that the FDP brought practical knowledge of

the subject to them.

3. 90% of the participants opined that the FDP was coordinated very well.

4. Participants endorsed the fact that such FDPs should be arranged regularly.
