JAGRITI YATRA

Jagriti Yatra is a unique national program which inspires and empowers young Indians to Build India through

Enterprise. It is run by a dynamic team under the banner of the Jagriti Sewa Sansthan, a charitable

organisation of longstanding repute.

The candidates who board the train are selected through a stringent selection process. The aim of the

selection process is to identify entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs from all over India and our focus is

candidates from, ‘Middle India’, the tier two cities and rural areas. We have intentionally not used the

traditional route of academic qualifications as we feel enterprise is rarely measurable by exam results. Instead,

we have crafted a series of essay questions designed to understand the mindset and potential of the candidate.

MY EXPERIENCE AND LEARNING

AJEET BHARTI, EDUCATOR AND JOURNALIST Facilitator JY 2013

“Being a facilitator at Jagriti Yatra was challenging as well as enriching in many aspects. You get to meet people from all walks, strata of life and then you need to manage them. Keeping them and yourself motivated as the journey progresses, physically and mentally, in layered ways.

Meeting individuals inside the train and the role models outside in their areas can be an eye opening experience. Yet, it is an experience one should, rather must, have to understand a boiling pot of cultures and

identities that India is.

We get to explore the ideas to build an India which, without a doubt, stands at the cusp of an entrepreneurial revolution. With a median age of 28 years now, and 20-24 in coming decades as against America and Japan's 40-42 we are set to lead the world.

The Yatra taps that idea inside a budding/thinking entrepreneur and facilitator gets to be the person to inspire these brains. Facilitation for JY is a tireless job, yet very rewarding. Help the young participants to manage their ideas, team and plan. It is one of the best ways to keep yourselves satisfied that you are actually helping build the JY vision of Building India through Entrepreneurship. That's the reward a facilitator gets.”

TEJASHREE KAMBLE, RESEARCH FELLOW AT UNIVERSITY OF PUNE Facilitator JY 2011

As a Facilitator I learnt to be a good learner. It helped to be rational and optimist in finding alternative solution to issues. For me it was a moving university. Each person on Yatra was like a school or an inspiration.

The Yatra is a hope in making India a sustainable nation with inclusive development and growth. It is on the right track to tap the potential of youth in right direction, making them realise freedom comes with responsibility towards nation and our society. As a Facilitator you get

to participate in this magnanimous effort.

Yatra teaches you to introspect, listen to opinions and motivates you. It plays a very big role in our own individual development. As a Facilitator you get to understand young minds and learn in the process.

PRANJAL MODI, CO OWNER AND TEACHER AT VANIJYA GURU Facilitator JY 2012

Being a facilitator was the best form of experiential learning for me. I was supposed to mentor 10-15 extremely enterprising, sharp, young minds, The beauty of being a facilitator is that in the process of pushing your group members to help them understand their potential, you are pushed to the limits yourself, for you realise, that your group members have already done way more than you could have imagined at that age (of 20-23) i.e. working hard to get into a good institution, running an enterprise, having failed in a couple of start-ups, supporting their family, supporting a social cause. And then they look up to you to guide them and help them know what they can become, trust me, you put in all you have in those 15 days, for you know

each and every participant is worth putting in the effort. As a result of this effort, you make a beautiful bond with most of your group members, which you will cherish for a lifetime.

It is a golden opportunity to know oneself better.

PARTH SAXENA, FOUNDER AND PARTNER, TOMMYJAMS Facilitator JY 2013

Jagriti Yatra was a truly amazing experience for me. It was an

incredible journey where I got the opportunity to mentor highly

energetic youth from different parts of the world. The diversity of

people on the train was mind-blowing, with people coming together

from rural, semi-urban and urban parts. Working on the concept of

building India through enterprise in such a colourful environment, while

actually getting to understand the grass-root problems/issues that

exist, was an enriching opportunity beyond words.

I recommend Jagriti Yatra to anyone who is passionate about community building and problem solving to see a

better India for the generations to come.

for replication of the role model enterprise and other social issues among the group of participants

learning

Manage a diverse group with a combination of urban, non-urban and international participants, each

from varying socio-economic backgrounds

Manage the cohort throughout the journey as per the Yatra Mantra (Code of Conduct)

Act as a bridge between the participants and the organizing team

Selected Facilitators are expected to travel all 15 days of the Yatra. The Yatra begins on the 24th of Dec and
