Classic Facial (50 min)
Step One: Cleanse Time: 3 Minutes Products: Cleanse Daily™, Take It Off™, Take Your Vitamins™
Supplies: Water bowl, hot towel, cotton rounds, esthetic wipes
Application: Dispense ¼ tsp. of Take It Off™ onto moistened cotton rounds and remove makeup.
Dispense ¼ tsp. of Cleanse Daily™ to wet hands. Apply cleanser to dry face (neck and décolleté areas
are cleansed when added on). Massage cleanser into the skin with circular strokes. Remove cleanser
with water and esthetic wipes or with a warm towel. Spray with 2 spritzes of Take Your Vitamins™ and pat
dry.
Step Two: Analyze
Time: 2 Minutes
During the skin analysis you will identify any concerns that you may see fit to discuss with the client. You
will also address any concerns or goals your clients may have for their skin. This is also an opportunity to
determine which exceptional facial or exceptional exfoliation may fit their skin care needs. Explain the
benefits of the exceptional services and how it will be more customized for their specific skin type.
Step Three: Massage
Time: 10 Minutes
Products: Relax™
Supplies: Hot towel
Application: Turn on steamer and position the steam arm away from client’s face. Apply 1 tsp. (2
pumps) of Relax™ to hands and rub front and back of hands together to warm the oil and your hands.
Apply direct steam arm onto face when starting the massage. Allow face to steam for the remainder of
the massage. When finished, remove with a hot towel.
DO NOT USE STEAM FOR SENSITIVE CLIENTS.
Step Four: Exfoliate
Time: 10 Minutes
Products: Peel Away the Years™, Senszyme Duo™, Get Clean™ (optional), Take Your
Vitamins™
Supplies: Mask brush, treatment bowl, warm/cool towels
Application: Cover the eyes with moistened cotton rounds. Apply ½ tbsp. of Peel Away the
Years™, ½ tbs. Senszyme Powder and 2 tsp. of Activator Gel, or Get Clean™ to face with a fan brush
(neck & décolleté when added). Be careful not to get too close to eyes. Apply steam. Let mask remain on
skin while continually monitoring the skin for any signs of sensitivity or redness. If the client feels
discomfort or shows increasing redness, remove right away (sometimes removing the steam will help with
discomfort). ALWAYS COMMUNICATING ON A SCALE OF 1-10 YOUR CLIENTS COMFORT LEVEL.
Remove mask with moist esthetic wipes followed by a warm towel to help remove any residue. Follow by
irrigating the skin with 1-2 spritzes of Take Your Vitamins™. Pat dry.
5
During step four, while the client is exfoliating, advise the client to communicate if any changes in
sensation occur. Make them aware that in this time of exfoliation you will be writing down some
recommendations for them to consider (SPASCRIPTION PAD). You can also use this time to fill out the
FACIAL TREATMENT RECORD.
Step Five: Extraction
Time: 10 Minutes
Products: Pre-Squeeze™, Fix It™
Supplies: Comedone extractor, 4 x 4s, gloves
Application: Put on gloves. Apply ¼ tsp. of Pre-Squeeze™ on the extraction areas with a small
nylon brush. Allow to stay on the skin for 1-minute minimum. When using the comedone extractor, slide
the comedone extractor gently over the area using slight pressure, somewhat of a scaling technique. If
you are using a manual extraction method with your wrapped fingertips, wipe the area that you are
immediately extracting with a dry 4 x 4 esthetic wipe, this eliminates slipping. Proceed with extractions by
zone to remove open comedones only. Following extraction, dab on ¼ tsp. of Fix It™ with a Q-tip to the
areas that you’ve extracted to create an anti-microbial environment.
Step Six: Finishing Mask
Time: 10 Minutes
Products: Cold Compress™
Application: Apply the ½ tsp. of Cold Compress™ onto the face and neck. Allow to remain on the
skin for 10 minutes. Remove with cool towels.

cases or patches of dryness, you may apply a ¼ tsp. of Nourish Your Skin™ 100% Squalane Moisturizing
Oil as needed. Apply 1/8 tsp. of Call Me in The Morning™ or Feel Better™. Apply 1/8 tsp. of Easy on The

much weaker acid than glycolic acid, lactic acid is best known as an acid peel for the removal of sun
spots, hyperpigmentation, liver spots and other skin discolorations. A lactic acid peel is also

Additional Things to Consider
EXFOLIATION:
The following skin conditions cannot receive any type of exfoliation (physical or mechanical) during a
facial:
• Clients using a prescribed chemical exfoliant such as Accutane or Retin-A. Client should not
receive and exfoliation for at least six months after they have discontinued use of Accutane, and
on the average three months after they have discontinued use of Retin-A (The time in which they
can resume treatment following Retin-A use is up to the Esthetician based on the consultation and
skin analysis).
• Skin with thread veins, open cut wounds, severe pustule acne or areas that have been recently
shaved, waxed, or sunburned.
• Some types of antibiotics tend to make the skin much more sensitive, so fine of the side effects of
all your client’s medications.
SUN EXPOSURE
Although not a treatment, sun exposure is an important consideration. If clients have sunburn prior to
treatment, they should not receive exfoliation on those areas. Treatments involving heat should be
undertaken with caution as they may still be suffering from dehydration and increased sensitivity levels
and may experience unnecessary discomfort.
SUN PROTECTION
Upon completion of a treatment, you should always reinforce the importance of sun protection to your
clients, especially following any exfoliation.

Can I Perform a Peel on A Client for Their First Visit?
Use the following guide to ensure that your client is the right candidate for a peel and so that you can feel
confident about performing the peel.
1. There are many things to take into consideration when contemplating providing a peel to a
first-time client.
a. The client’s skin should be free of any irritation, open sores, redness, or sunburn.
always say to estheticians “let the skin speak to you”. If it is irritated for any reason it is
a good idea to provide the client with one or more of the basic or exceptional facials
first. Think of this as “conditioning” the skin first.
b. The other time in which it may not be a good idea is if the client has lots of congestion
(blackheads/milia). They are a better candidate for one or more of the Detox Facial with
extractions. This is for two reasons:
i. we do not extract with our peels
ii. it will prevent a significant breakout following a peel since the peels soften that
follicular debris and force the skin to purge.
c. The client should not be currently using any home care products that have a low pH or
are known irritants (i.e. glycolic/lactic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide,
hydroquinone, Retin-A, etc.) or have used them within 3-5 days of the peel.
d. Be sure that the client has not exfoliated, shaved, or exercised within the last 12 hours.
e. Do not use sponges or towels on the skin with any peel. Please use 4 x 4s only.
2. The patch test that is now required for all potential peel clients will give the LE a read if they are
a good candidate for a peel that day. In that patch test we look for signs of
irritation/discomfort/potential allergies, etc. It is a great gauge to see if the LE has a green light
to proceed.
3. Should you decide to perform a peel that day. It is recommended that the LE leaves the peel
solution on for 1-2 minutes for the first-time client that receives a peel as opposed to the full 3
minutes. This is a way to slowly introduce the skin to our solutions. Or, at any time, should the
client’s skin become red or irritated within the 3 minutes, they should rinse the solution off.

PEEL PATCH TEST CONSENT AND WAIVER
I am aware and understand that receiving any treatment can, in some individuals, cause an allergic
reaction. I fully understand this reaction can occur at any time even if I have received this service on
previous occasions. I further understand that it is Hand and Stone’s policy to perform a skin patch test
preferably twenty-four hours prior to all peel/tinting services. However, a patch test can be done the day
of the peel and is to be watch by the Esthetician for 1 minute. If no signs of redness are present, you can
proceed with the peel that day. I also understand a negative skin patch test does not mean that a
reaction will not still occur. I understand these risks and if I have any concerns, I will seek medical advice
prior to any peel/tinting service.

Exceptional Exfoliation Post Care Instructions
Microdermabrasion/Peel/MicroPeel services can provide marked improvement in the appearance of
one’s skin texture, as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, diminish large pores,
brighten skin discoloration, and tighten and tone the skin.
Following treatment, you may resume your daily activities or return to work immediately. You may re-
apply mineral makeup. Increased water intake is strongly encouraged in the following 48-72 hours.
To ensure the safety and efficacy of the treatment received, please adhere to the following post care
instructions:
Skin may feel extra sensitive. It is normal to see a little redness or have a “windburn”
sensation for part of the day.
Minimize sun exposure. Sunblock will be applied to the treated area at the
conclusion of the service. Protect skin every day with a high-quality broad-spectrum
sunblock.
It is imperative that NO TANNING is done while undergoing these treatments, as you
may burn severely and reduce the results that may be obtained. Overheating can
cause hyperpigmentation damage to the skin.
For the next 24 hours, strenuous exercise or any activity that causes excessive
perspiration is not recommended. While it will not harm or hinder you skin care
treatment progress, the perspiration can be irritating.
Retinoid/AHA usage should be discontinued for 3 days before and 3 days after
treatment.
Refrain from waxing, electrolysis, or depilatories for at least 7 days.
Use of cold compress can provide relief from the “wind-burned” feeling. Do not apply
ice or ice water to treated areas.
Peels can cause redness of the skin as well as some flakiness and dryness. Do not
pick or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. This can potentially cause
hyperpigmentation.
Do not put the face directly into hot shower spray. Do not use jacuzzi, steam rooms,
or saunas.
Do not go swimming.
Do not use loofahs or other means of manual exfoliation.
Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.

What to do in the event of an allergic reaction to ClarityRx® products
Allergic reactions are usually associated with, but not limited to: swelling, inflammation, welting, itching,
and/or redness. Please follow the protocol below in case of an allergic reaction:
1. Remove all products from the face quickly with soft 4x4s only. Do not use towels or sponges as they
could further irritate the skin.
2. Spray liberal amount of Take Your Vitamins™ spray in attempt to calm and irrigate the skin. Allow
drying.
3. Apply liberal amount of Healing Fine™ ointment. Be careful not to over manipulate the skin.
4. If daytime, apply small amount of Skin Defense™ SPF 30 to the skin by patting it. Do not rub.
5. In most cases, allergic type reactions recover themselves once the irritating agent is removed from
the skin. Clients may experience some prolonged redness, up to 24 hour or longer.
6. Encourage the client to use the Take Your Vitamins™ spray as often as needed to cool, calm, and
hydrate the skin until redness subsides. Once the spray dries, follow with another application of the
Healing Fine™ ointment as needed. If redness and irritation persist for longer than 48 hours, please
recommend they consult with their physician.

Tips & Contraindications for Pregnant Clients
First and foremost, we need to be sure that our pregnant clients stay safe. Provide them with a helping
hand while getting on and off the treatment table before and after the service. Special attention is
required for our pregnant client’s skin due to the fact that their skin could be going through a myriad of
changes. Hormonal influences during pregnancy and throughout the breastfeeding process can cause
the skin to potentially create more oil, become more dehydrated, influence acne lesions and their skin
may experience increased sensitivity levels.
For professional services the following are to be avoided:
• All acid-based peels are absolutely contraindicated throughout the pregnancy and the
breastfeeding period.
• Based on the sensitivity levels of the client avoid more abrasive treatments such as
microdermabrasion and scrubs, especially throughout the first trimester when the skin
experiences the most rapid changes.
• Do NOT use essential oils of any kind.
• Pregnant clients may be more sensitive to extractions. Be sure to communicate throughout the
process to ensure that they are comfortable.
For home care products:
All home care products that contain acids such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and retinols should be
discontinued throughout pregnancy and breast-feeding.
It is best to choose products and service options that are safe, and emphasize relaxation, along with
deep cleansing, hydrating, and calming.

Tips on Working with Oncology Clients
In working with oncology clients undergoing cancer treatments the skin can be compromised and pose
challenges for estheticians such as:
• Hyper dehydration
• Increased sensitivity levels
• Blood clots risks, influencing lymph nodes, thinned, and loss of elasticity
An Esthetician must know their products and services in depth and have the ability to modify their skin
care product applications, tools, techniques, and equipment in order to adapt for the conditions
associated with side effects of the cancer treatments and how they affect the skin.
In addressing each client’s own specific conditions, estheticians start by establishing whether you are
working with a client in active treatment, a recent finish and now in recovery, or someone in long-term
treatment. This helps us to determine the best treatment course, length, frequency, tolerability and the
like.
It is recommended that clients requesting treatment should be seeking their physician’s approval before
moving forward with any service and/or home care regimen.
Clients still in active cancer treatment or recent recovery:
Skin is usually extremely dry and dehydrated, inflamed and irritated, fragile, sun sensitive, and can be
very reactive. Treat the most predominant condition, sensitivity, first. Focus on hydrating, soothing,
calming, gentle services and a very simple home care regimen.
• Be sure to stay away from low pH-based products, irritants such as artificial fragrances &
colorants.
• Be sure to stay away from detergent based ingredients such as ammonium lauryl sulphate or
phosphates, and acid-based formulas that strip the lipids and proteins of the stratum corneum.
• Focus on products and services that moisturize with ingredients such as emollients, humectants,
and occlusive ointments.
• Avoid excessive heat, steam, hot towels, too progressive or too irritating services.
• Avoid harsh, physical exfoliants, retinol-based products, chemical peels, alcohols, astringents, or
anything that could dry the skin. It is recommended that no extractions are to be done due to the
potential for excessive bleeding, potential bruising, unnecessary inflammation, and the very
serious risk of cross-contamination or infection.
