Sure. It was recorded in 1982 for the album Thriller. It’s tempo is medium-fast and upbeat. The mood is happy and upbeat. It’s dynamic is loud.

What’s the story behind the lyrics of the song?

I wrote the song about the media. They keep bothering me and starting gossip and rumors about my life. That’s why the song is called “Wanna Be Startin’ Something”. They keep taking advantage of how strange I am and use me for news stories.

The lyrics “I took my baby to the doctor with a fever, but nothing he found… they said she had a breakdown” is about how they make up gossip about me. The lyrics “You’re a vegetable, they eat off of you” is about how they use me for news stories.
