Face to Face Maya
Madalina Maria Palasanu
Eve Arnold Eve Arnold (born April 21, 1912) is an American photojournalist. She first became associated with Magnum Photos in 1951, and became a full member in 1957.
This photograph is a portrait of Marilyn Monroe and it’s been taken during the filming of ‘The Misfits’ in Nevada, 1960. Eve Arnold was influenced by the actress Marilyn Monroe, that trusted Arnold more than any other photographer. The photographer is trying to show us a sad and innocent side of the actress. I personally like this photo, because it gives me a relaxed and depressed mood.

Mario Testino Mario Testino (born 30 October 1954 in Lima) is a Peruvian fashion photographer..
This photograph is a portrait of the actress Angelina Jolie, and it’s been taken in a studio. I think that in this picture Mario Tes<no was influenced by the beauty of the actress. The photographer is trying to show us the naughty side of the actress. I personally like this photo, because it underlines the natural beauty of the actress.

Mind map - Self Mario Testino is my influence for self portraits, because I enjoy taking pictures that express the hidden personality of people. I don’t like pictures edited quite a lot, I prefer the natural ones. I was thinking to take them in black and white, because it makes the picture quiet abstract and makes the subject stands up in a nice way.
Mind map - Others
For the photographs with others, I am thinking to take picture of my classmate Ayla, because she’s got a natural beauty face, like the ones Mario Testino is using. I would like to edit the photos in black and white, but edit the colour of her eyes and make them blue, because I’ve always wanted to have blue eyes. I am thinking to leave the natural colour of the lips, even if the rest of the photograph is in black and white, because it gives it a worm mood, and it also captures the attention.
My intentions when taking these two photographs was to express Ayla’s feelings, by taking photos of her face expression. I’ve chose a depressed side of her, because it gives the whole photo a sad mood. I was particularly inspired by the photograper Mario Testino. The composition of the photograph is quiet strong, because the subject is in the centre and stands out. I haven’t edited it a lot, because I think that photos edited a lot give a cheap feeling, and I’ve changed it to black and white because works very nice with her depressing mood. The lines from her sweater are quite curved, and the photograph has an organic look.
Studio Photographs
I’ve captured here two different moods of Ayla and Clarrisa, that come across in a nice way, and give the photograph two opposite feelings : warm, happy and cold, depressing. They try to express the feelings that everyone have, and the bad or good days we are going through.
Street Portraits
I am pleased with both of my final outcomes. I couldn’t choose which one I like more, so I’ve printed both of them. I’ve chosen to take a close up photograph of half of my classmate’s face, with a neutral expression. The photo is in focus, the composition is very strong, and the lighting is good as well, the photograph is quiet correctly exposed. I’ve changed the eye colour to a metallic blue, and I’ve changed the rest of the photograph to black and white, so the eye stands up. I left the photo quiet natural, because I don’t really like photos a lot edited, they look quiet fake. If I had more time, I don’t think that I would change the photograph, but probably I would take some photos of the other side of her face, and collage them. For my second final outcome, I’ve chosen to take more several photographs of my classmate, I’ve left 2 of them natural, and for the other 2 I’ve changed the colour to black and white. I’ve created a montage with them together, in order to create a photo composed of more expressions and feelings, that show sadness and even despair. Both of the photos are in focus, the composition is strong, because the subject is in the centre, and the lighting is good, it is correctly exposed . I like the texture of her sweater, it gives a worm mood. If I would have more time, I would probably take more than 2 pictures, that express same feelings, and combine them.

Sharon Elphick Inspired Outcome
In this photograph, I’ve tried to capture my classmate Ayla in an excited mood. I was particularly inspired by the photographer Mario Testino, a portrait photographer who had a strong impact in my work because of the way he captured expressions. The composition of the photograph is strong because the photograph is balanced . I’ve edited it in black and white and over exposed it to highlight the expression of the face. This photograph gives a funny and energetic mood and the face expression looks very natural. Therefore in conclusion I obtained the visual results I hoped for because I successfully captured what I was hoping for.
My intention when taking this photograph was to capture the happy and joyful side of Ayla. I was particularly inspired by the photographer Mario Testino because he had a lot of influence for me in this project. The composition of the photograph is strong because the photograph is balanced and has a very strong effect and contrast because of the bright background. The photograph is sharply in focus and it’s mostly correctly exposed, except the face that is only quite over exposed, but that was my intention when taking the photo, so Ayla’s features are underlined. I’ve only chosen to auto balance it, because I didn’t want a very edited and fake photograph. Therefore in conclusion I obtained the visual results I hoped for because I successfully captured what I was hoping for.
