Came into existence as a joint venture between B.K. Birla group and Enka International (Akzo Nobel Group) of Netherland in Year 1967.

Transition In 2005, Enka International shareholding in Century Enka passed on to Accordis.

Present CEL Management In 2006, Accordis divested its entire share-holding to Century Enka and in the open market. Henceforth it is well known as a Flag ship company of B.K. Birla Group .

CEL is the largest producer of NFY and 2nd largest producer of Nylon Industrial

Yarn in India.
