You will need: Cotton/linen fabric with a fun print (colors of your choice) Pen (non-retractable style) Binder clip String Aleene’s Tacky Glue Masking tape Ruler Scissors Pinking shears Print a picture of a completed pen to show crafters. Post a copy on your bulletin board to create interest in the activity. Directions: 1. Using pinking shears, cut a 1/2"-wide strip of fabric to wrap around the pen. The strip should be about 16" long. Set aside for now. 2. Using regular scissors, cut four 4" X 16" pieces of fabric for the pom-pom. Stack the four pieces as shown in the first photo on the following page. Secure them together with a binder clip along one of the 4" sides. 3. Cut the stack into 1/2" strips using pinking shears. The strips should be about 1/2" X 4". 4. Cut a 12" piece of string and place the strips in the center of the string as shown. 5. Bring the ends of the string together and tie a double knot around them.

1. Using pinking shears, cut a 1/2"-wide strip of fabric to wrap around the pen. The strip should be about 16" long. Set aside for now.

6. To attach the pom-pom to the end of the pen, stretch the ends of the stringalong opposite sides of the pen. Secure the string in place with pieces oftape wrapped around the pen at the top and about 1" from the point asshown below.

7. Apply a thin bead of glue along the center of the 16"-long strip of fabric. Starting at the point of the pen, wrap the strip around as shown above.

8. Allow to dry for 15 minutes and your pen is ready to use!

Idea: Make a bouquet of pens in different colors and stand them in a pencil holder.
