WTAE won't renew Jack Bogut's contract

For thousan& of radio listeners, it just won't be "over-the-hump day" without him, but Jack Bogut will not be telling early morning fans to "start your heart" after his current 5-year contract with WTAEKadio expires in July.

Tom Clendeninp, the station's prc- gram director, confirmed today that Bogut's contract - estimated a t $300,000 a year when he signed it in I983 - will not be renewed.

"Jack has other radio ir'erests, other radio projectr and hc aTso has oulside business interests to pursue." Clendening said. "There is nothing f i i today" on who might replace Bogut on thestation's morningdrive- time broadcast.

Clendening said the exact terms of Bogut's contract were "confiden- tial information that I wouldn't di- vulge under any circumstances."

Doug Hoerth substituted for Bogut on the station's morning show today. No mention of W T W s parting with Bogut was made on the station's early m o h g news broadcasts.

Bogut is on vacation and could not be reached for comment.

The Wolf Point. Mont.. native staged a major shakeuk of local radi'o in July 1983, when he resigned after 15 years with KDKA-Radio.

At tbe time, Bogut had listener ratings five times higher than any competitor.
