Signs like this one

were seen throughout

the Stow and Munroe Falls

area before the May 4 election.

There are two great ways to

Participate in

Summer Reading.

Last year, the Adult

Information Desk answered

98,749 questions. What

types of things are asked?

Here is a sampling of

questions from May provided

from Barbara Nelson,

assistant head of reference

services.

Question: I am new to the area

and don’t know any people.

What does the library have to

offer to help me meet new

people?

Answer: We have 3 Adult

Book Discussion groups, a

Friends of the Library group,

a writer’s group, a Family

Folklore group, a Bridge

group, Quilter’s Group and a

Whittler’s group that meet at

the library. I think we have

something for everyone .

Question: Do you have to live

in Stow or Munroe Falls to

get a library Card?

Answer: No. The only

residency requirement is that

you live in the state of Ohio.

In fact, any citizen of Ohio is

eligible to go to any library in

the whole state and apply for

a library card.

Question: I have a neighbor

from Guatemala who has

difficulty with English. Does

the library teach English as a

Second Language?.

Answer: Project Learn of

Summit County does teach

English classes in our Library.

They can be reached at 330-

643-9195 or

[email protected].

Although the library staff

does not teach English

classes we do have an ESL

(English as a Second

Language) collection of

materials that can be

borrowed.

The Pet Show has become a

tradition at our library, and it’s

not just for cats and dogs.

Rich Brandon is a very

valuable part of our

Circulation Department.

Rich processes books, DVDs

and other material when they

are returned to the library.

It’s also possible you may

have received a call from him

if you have placed a book on

hold. Here’s some more

information on this month’s

“Fine Print Employee of the

Month.”

What is your current job?

Public Services Assistant in

Circulation

What other jobs have you

had ? I worked in the

Children’s Department for a

short time.

How would you describe

SMFPL? It is a great place to

work. The employees I work

with are super and the

patrons are very nice.

What book would you

recommend? Anything by

Terry Pluto, former sports

writer for The Akron Beacon

Journal.

What is your favorite vacation

spot? The Caribbean Islands

What would people be

surprised to know about you?

I am very shy when I first

meet somebody, but not

once I get to know them.

How about any hobbies? I

love all kinds of sports,

traveling, photography and

surfing the internet. I also

love to play computer games.

Do you have any pets? I

have a 1-1/2 year old rescue

dog. She is a lhasa apso and

her name is Piper.

We dodged the raindrops

on Saturday, May 1 be-

tween 10:00 and noon to

pull off another successful

Touch-a Truck event in

the parking lot of our li-

brary! Nearly 500 kids

and adults came to see a

mail truck, UPS truck, po-

lice car, tow truck, library

vehicle and the Stow fire

truck with its ladder ex-

tended high into the air.

Kids of all ages were able

to run around in the back

of the UPS truck, sit in the

front seats of all the

vehicles (and honk the

horns!), and talk to the

firefighters. The mailman

was there and the UPS

driver and tow truck

driver, too! The UPS driver

even brought his dog

named “Brown.” It was a

great day!
