Adriatic Slovenica

• Benefited from Exadata’s InfiniBand networking, to cut the avg time for typical transactions, from one minute to six seconds

• Improved agent and customer satisfaction by eliminating peak-time bottlenecks and service delays

• Leveraged Exadata performance to consolidate the workload and cut the number of CPUs from 24 to 12, saving $58,000/Y fees

• Cut system back-up times, simplified and streamlined management and support to improve database administrator productivity

• Benefited from Oracle Exadata’s built-in storage consolidation to cut data storage costs

Business challenge Oracle solution • Accelerate response time for online access (customers and

agents), insurance management platform (all services)

• Manage 3TB of data and up to 600 concurrent agents and end-

customer users without impact on performance

• Scale system to manage increasing transaction volumes and user

numbers while reducing storage, lowering power usage, driving

down license costs, and cutting maintenance overhead

•To align company insurance platform w/changing business and

market needs, accelerate time to value from new tech investments

Results

• Replaced Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server

infrastructure (company’s insurance platform) w/single Oracle

Exadata Database Machine X2-2 Quarter Rack, running on

Oracle Linux, to create a resilient, high-volume online

transaction processing environment

• Migrated all agents and customer-facing activities related to

selling and buying insurance products, quotations, premiums,

claims, and settlements onto the new platform

Adriatic Slovenica is the second largest Slovenian insurance company. It offers a wide range of insurance products, including health, life, motor,

third-party liability, fire and natural hazards, general liability, accident, credit, and surety ship insurance. The company, founded in 1990, has

operations in Slovenia and Serbia, with annual accrued insurance premiums in the amount of EUR 260 million.

Ministry of Health

• The deal has actually started with upgrading their Exadata Quarter Rack to Full Rack. Than a new Full rack has been added as a

Datawarehouse Machine. After running some tests for datawarehouse queries on Exadata, they have seen that they can achieve even

more performance if they move their datawarehouse system to Exadata. At the end, they decided to consolidate all their databases and

datawahouse in 4 Full Racks utilizing the current Exadatas as Standby database.

Business challenge Oracle solution • Ministry of Health invested in Exadata at the end of Q1 in

FY11. Their Quarter Exadata went live in November 2010 and

Full Exadata in December 2010. They have seen that their

database performance has increased more than 10 X and they

have seen that they could consolidate 3 different databases in

1 Full Exadata saving space and energy. They have also seen

that they could manage Exadata much easier than their

numbers of conventional database servers and storage.
