You look for a name and you

    understand it's a mirror.

    -Vietnam War Memorial-

I never made any special thought related to theday I was born. But then, once, I went to

Washington D.C. to see the Vietnam War

Memorial. Since the names are placed upon a

chronological order, I was curious to see the

people who died on the day I was born. To readthese names and to think that in the same day I

was born they finished their lives, it impressed me

quite a lot. Not to mention the sheer beauty and

power of the memorial itself, one of the most

impressive places I've ever been in my whole life.

Miao Magazine is one of the best magazine I've

Very fantastic! Unfortunately, this fact that you

    A Woman Spraying DDT

    on a Window

When I was a child, I used to go to my

grandparents for the summer holiday. They lived

in southern Italy, quite different from Turin, in the

north. My grand-mother she had an obsession onflies. Everyday she would spend an incredible

amount of energy to fight flies. DDTwas her

weapon. Anwway I was never allowed to spray.

Only to watch. And to smell (DDT had an

incredibly peculiar smell). I never understood thehidden reasons of this holy war. Anyway, it was a

    great fun.

    Unknown Image

I really don't know why my grandmother had this

DDT obsession. It was not related to her age (my

other grandmother didn't mind flies and insects so

much). I think it had to do with the Americans

arriving to her village in 1944. I wish i would haveasked more...

    1974, Passo Del Turchino

    Felice Gimondi

By then (I was in grade school), I really liked Felice

Gimondi. He was the most power Italian cyclist.

Another thing really impressive was this fact of

being himself a superhero, in a world where therewas a more powerful one (Eddy Merckx).

This idea where you are a superhero but finally

you lose because there is another stronger one,

    really caught on my imagination.

I remember once I read an interview to Gimondi,

and the journalist asked him if he suffered

because of the presence of Eddy Merckx. He

replied: "Not all. It was the two of you, not myselfor himself. If I would have been alone, it would

have been nothing. I was existing because of this

    rivalry."

    Easter Island

    Very Impressive Story

    -by Rapa Nui-

I remember quite well the day when my grade

school teacher explained to us the whole story

about the stone heads in the Easter Island. Rapa

Nui, those people cutting off all the trees theyhad. I was only in fifth grade but I remember

everything she said about this place and those

    curious people living there.

Never been there, but life is long...

    Very nice, indeed!

knew I would have never been able to put it back

    together.

I tried. I did what I thought it was my best. But,

    finally, I wasn't able.

The bike remained in the courtyard for some

weeks, then some person trashed the whole thing

    Sottsass Goes Gas (station)

    -Sottsass Associati-

I remember it was in the early '90's. I was a

student of architecture and I was really passionate

about gas stations. Those Erg gas stations, with the odd look, already

    caught my attention.

Then one day I bought this big black book on

Ettore Sottsass (in my mind he was a designer andsince I was a student of architecture he was

outside my interests) and it was enlightening.

Between the others there were the Erg things.

Some fifteen years later, once I was chitchattingwith Gianluigi Mutti and he told me that in

Sottsass Associati he was the one in charge of the

Erg project and to him it was a total nightmare (he

had to design and check thousand gas stations all

    around the country).

    Antro Della Sibilla Cumana

One of the nice things of having to do a museum in

Naples is that you have to go to Naples quite

often. Every time we go, I try to get to stay somemore so that I can go to see things around. This

time, my friend Giuseppe Vele took me to explore

the magic (underground) world of the Sibyl in

Cuma. Upon Virgil, the gateway to the

Underworld. Very fascinating. Not Roman, notGreek, not Etruskan... An odd place impossible to

connect to other architectures or buildings you

have seen before. To find something similar (in its

concept) we have to go to Angkor Wat. Very

interesting. Here some more images: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/

you need to know about ms Sibyl and its specific

    Naples

    -project by: mischer'traxler-

Well, this project is not exactly new. To be

precise is a project by Katharina Mischer and

Thomas Traxler, around 2008/9. I knew the

project but I never had the chance to meet the

two Viennese designers. But the Marco Petroni and

Plart organized this workshop in Naples while we

were setting up things related to Id-Lab new

So we met. Very nice couple, very smart and very

charming. Their things on show at Plart were nice,

we had some nice time in chaotic Naples and

    everyone enjoyed pretty much.

visualised data from various sources. Every

In the recent years, Bruno Munari became the

parsley of Italian design. If you don't know what

Munari is everywhere, he is understood as a guru,

becomes a fundamental step in the process. Eachlayer of the image gets its own specific treatment,

Probably the form factor ain't best. But the

concept is nice. Love Hultn made this Senescent

Desk. A quick description from Design Milk zine: "Aproject about natural change without maintenance

and a story about interaction. The Senescent Desk

is basically a self-sufficient gardening system

based on a water-tank, mist makers, two fans, a

growth substrate material made from recycledplastic and a digital time. The idea is that over

time, the vegetation will flourish and (hopefully)

eventually attack the artifact without the need

of human interaction". More at: http://www.

    Apple 1

    Los Altos, CA, United States

The original Apple Computer, also known

retroactively as the Apple I, or Apple-1, is a

personal computer released by the Apple

Computer Company (now Apple Inc.) in 1976. They

were designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak.

Wozniak's friend Steve Jobs had the idea of selling

the computer. The Apple I was Apple's first

product, and to finance its creation, Jobs sold his

only means of transportation, a VW van. It wasdemonstrated in April 1976 at the Homebrew

Computer Club in Palo Alto, California.

The Apple I went on sale in July 1976 at a price of

US$666.66, because Wozniak "liked repeatingdigits" and because they originally sold it to a local

    shop for $500 plus a one-third markup. About 200

units were produced. Unlike other hobbyist

computers of its day, which were sold as

kits, the Apple I was a fully assembled circuit

    board containing about 60+ chips.

However, to make a working computer, users still

had to add a case, power supply transformers,

power switch, ASCII keyboard, and composite

video display. An optional board providing a

cassette interface for storage was later released

    at a cost of $75.

    Some More Landscape...

    -Giorgione, The Tempest, ca. 1508-

On the right a woman sits, suckling a baby. She

could be a gypsy, or to some people's eyes a

prostitute. Her pose is unusual - normally the baby

would be held on the mother's lap; but in this case

the baby is positioned at the side of the mother,so as to expose her pubic area. This appears to

signal that the mother's realm is the everyday

    rather than the sacred.

A man, possibly a soldier, holding a long staff orpike, stands in contrapposto on the left. He smiles

and glances to the right, but does not appear to be

looking at the woman. Art historians have

identified the man alternatively as a soldier, a

shepherd, a gypsy, or a member of a club ofunmarried men.

X-rays of the painting have revealed that in the

place of the man, Giorgione originally painted

another female nude. To some, he represents

him, which often symbolize force or strength.

These pillars, however, are brokena classic

symbol of death. One may also note the stork on

the rooftop on the right. Storks sometimes

represent the love of parents for their children.

    Argentina, a guarantee going-to-be-star (I like

A very special night. The play was excellent, the

the mental patients running the restaurant) + a lot

The other nice thing of going to watch this

"Lucido" play (set it up by Milena Costanzo and

Roberto Rustioni on Rafael Spregelburd text), is

this fact that mr Spregelburd flew all the way from

Buenos Aires to come to watch it.

    This I like.

He was asked by fanciful Ronconi to have his stuff

for the important theatre, but he nixed him

because he liked Milena and Roberto better.

He loved the idea to have his play set by an

indipendent production, on show in a madhouse

(not to mention that all the important critics had

to move their asses from Rome and come to this

odd location in the middle of nowhere, with the

mentally ill patient running the little theater, the

    restaurant end everything else).
