Why Students Should Attend Extracurriculars
By: Mara Spector
Extracurriculars and why you should attend them:
• An extracurricular is any before/after school activity that includes a group of people
• Involvement in extracurriculars reduces the chances you will drop out of school.
• Extracurriculars help with the social aspect, your future and your academic performance.
Social Aspects:
• These activities allow students to meet new people, work in groups, and enhance their social skills.
• Extracurriculars help them to meet new people who most likely have the same interests as them
• This also allows students to learn how to work in groups and learn compromise.
Future:
• Attending extracurriculars allows students to have a better chance at getting into a good school as well as job.
• Schools look for activities that will build up your group working skills as well as leadership.
• These activities allow students to become more organized as well as manage their time.
• They learn to manage time by balancing family, friends, school/homework, and their extracurricular.
Academic Improvement:
• Like I mentioned in the first slide the school drop out rate is very high, almost 1.2 million students drop out of high school each year.
• With extracurriculars your chances of dropping out decrease.
• In addition, your grades increase, one reason this is possible is because these activities reduce stress
• These activities also help you learn life lessons that you cannot learn in a classroom.
