We recognise the contribution that well thought out design can make to allowing people to remain independent for as long as possible and keep abreast of design thinking in this area. We are involved with various policy and ‘think tank’ organisations such as Housing LIN, the University of Sheffield, PSSRU, etc. and contribute to and follow the development of ideas and trends in this important sector. The demographics show that housing for older people will become ever more important and our knowledge of current practice enables us to help our clients to build popular and successful schemes. We are sensitive to the variety of architectural styles required in different situations and pride ourselves on producing high quality architecture using diverse vocabularies. Current thinking is that Extra Care accommodation should increasingly be integrated into the general mix of housing provision, both by incorporating facilities to be used by the wider community and by fitting into the streetscape as conventional housing provision, rather than standing out as ”older persons accommodation.” We believe that our wide experience in this sector gives us an understanding of the needs and operational methods of our clients and our expertise enables us to find our way through the often complex and challenging planning issues involved. At a detailed level, we take care to carry through the quality of the initial design to the construction stage and green issues are given a high priority as sustainable design becomes ever more important within all aspects of construction. Archadia has always specialised in housing for older people and has been involved in the design of extra care schemes from their earliest beginnings as a housing concept.

Current thinking is that Extra Care accommodation should increasingly be integrated into the general mix of housing provision, both by incorporating facilities to be used by the wider community and by fitting into the streetscape as conventional housing provision, rather than standing out as ”older persons accommodation.”

We believe that our wide experience in this sector gives us an understanding of the needs and operational methods of our clients and our expertise enables us to find our way through the often complex and challenging planning issues involved. At a detailed level, we take care to carry through the quality of the initial design to the construction stage and green issues are given a high priority as sustainable design becomes ever more important within all aspects of construction.

Some of our clients include Christian Action H. A., Hanover, Housing 21, Moat Housing Group, Sanctuary H. A., Retirement Lease H. A., Rosemary Simmons Memorial H. A, A2 Dominion, Wokingham District Council, Pavilion H. A., Abbeyfield Homes, Stevenage Homes, Central & Cecil H. A., Camden Council, and MHA Care Group.

We work throughout the South and West, London and the Home Counties.
