EXTERNAL PARTS OF PERSONAL COMPUTER
1. MONITOR – is an output device has the ability to display image information and
video images from the system unit
2. KEYBOARD – are designed for the input of text and characters and also to control the
operation of a computer. Physically, computer keyboards are an arrangement of
rectangular buttons.
3. MOUSE – is relatively straightforward pointing device consisting of four major parts:
the plastic housing, the mouse ball, the electronics pc board, and the signal cabling
4. SPEAKER – an electronic device used to convert electrical energy into sound energy,
providing audible sound for pc.
5. Microphone – is a device that converts sound energy to electrical energy. The signalscan then be amplified by the sound board into the PC, transmitted for broadcasting or
used for recording the sounds.
6. PRINTER – an output device that produces a hard copy of documents stored in
electronic form, usually on physical media.
7. SCANNER – an input device used to convert an image or text into digital form for
storage or display
8. WEBCAM – an optical device that can capture, create and communicate with full
color video and images. And create video clips for the internet communication.
9. JOYSTICK – a personal computer peripheral or general control device consisting of a
handheld stick that Pivots about one end transmits its angle in two or three dimensions to
a computer
10. FLASH DRIVE – a memory data storage devices integrated with a usb interface.
They are typically small, lightweight, removable, and rewritable.
11. EXTERNAL MODEM – is an electronic device that is used for computer
communications through telephone lines and installed via serial or usb interface.
12. FLOPPY DISK – a data storage device composed of a disk of thin, flexible magnetic
storage medium encased in a square or rectangular plastic shell
13. HEADSET – a device that is equivalent to a telephone handset in functionality. But is
designed to fit around the person’s head for more comfort by leaving both hands free;
contains a microphone14. EXTERNAL HARD DISK – a rigid magnetic disk fixed permanently within a device
unit and used for storing computer data.
15. AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATOR – a device or circuit that maintains a load
voltage nearly constant over a range of variations of input voltage and load current
16. ETHERNET HUB – is a device for connecting multiple twisted pair or fiber opticEthernet devices together, making them act as a single segment
17. SWITCH – is sometimes called a multiport bridge, for reducing traffic andincreasing bandwidth.
18. ROUTER – is a computer networking device that determines the proper path for data packets to travel between different networks, toward their destinations
