Better Interreg governance: why is it needed?

• To reduce border obstacles – mainly those of administrative orlegal nature

- Evidence for EU internal borders (and inspiration for external ones): the Cross-Border Review exercise (https://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/en/policy/cooperation/european-territorial/cross-border/review/)

• To enhance building of trust between citizens and institutionsacross borders

Response in the RegulationArticles 14(4) and 15(2) of the draft ETC Regulation

• Improving institutional capacity of public authorities

• Making public adminstration more efficient by promoting legaland administrative cooperation and cooperation between citizensand institutions (resolving border obstacles)

• Specific for EU external borders: building up mutual trust by people-to-people actions, enhancing sustainable democracy, support to civil society
