Extended Maintenance Thanks to more than 12,000,000 cumulative EOHs and an intensive analysis of site data on component life consumption, Ansaldo Energia’s R&D department has introduced a new formula of Weighted Operating Hours (WEOH). This formula takes into account the real damage accumulation rate due to fatigue and creep effects on GT components - especially during partial loads, high load gradients and a high number of start- ups - which characterize typical operating profiles. More accurately describing actual degradation rates based on plant load profile, the WEOH formula can lead to a factual load-oriented definition of maintenance major outage intervals. In case of partial load predominance, the operating days between major outages can be substantially increased (up to + 20%). WEOH=EC(start type,loading and thermal cycles)+EFH(operation type,fuel,water/ steam inj.) The WEOH formula is based on two different elements: the Equivalent Cycle (EC) taking into account the fatigue, and the Equivalent Firing Hours (EFH) taking into account the creep. The coefficients for the new formula have been defined on the basis of Finite Elements thermo- structural calculation, crossed with evidence from real components. The WEOH formula introduction allows an increase of the maintenance interval with respect to the EOH calculation, by means of weightings each start and each firing hours on the basis of their real life consumption of Turbine B&Vs. Extended Maintenance

Thanks to more than 12,000,000 cumulative EOHs and an intensive analysis of site data on component life consumption, Ansaldo Energia’s R&D department has introduced a new formula of Weighted Operating Hours (WEOH). This formula takes into account the real damage accumulation rate due to fatigue and creep effects on GT components - especially during partial loads, high load gradients and a high number of start-ups - which characterize typical operating profiles.More accurately describing actual degradation rates based on plant load profile, the WEOH formula can lead to a factual load-oriented definition of maintenance major outage intervals. In case of partial load predominance, the operating days between major outages can be substantially increased (up to + 20%).

WEOH=EC(start type,loading and thermal cycles)+EFH(operation type,fuel,water/ steam inj.)

The WEOH formula is based on two different elements: the Equivalent Cycle (EC) taking into account the fatigue, and the Equivalent Firing Hours (EFH) taking into account the creep.The coefficients for the new formula have been defined on the basis of Finite Elements thermo-structural calculation, crossed with evidence from real components.

The WEOH formula introduction allows an increase of the maintenance interval with respect to the EOH calculation, by means of weightings each start and each firing hours on the basis of their real life consumption of Turbine B&Vs.
